We use the Tow Defender. It is a similar product to Protect-A-Tow. We also have a rock guard on the MH.

In 7 years of full-timing including driving on gravel roads to our favorite campsites and a trip to Alaska, we have had no damage using no protection. We have mud flaps behind the wheels but we don't have the full flap across the rear, the reason being, we heard it actually throws up rocks instead of protecting. We even witnessed RVers in Alaska taking the full flap off because their cars were getting damaged.

Been there done that. Got the tracker repainted in Mexico and left the gravel guard (thrower!) in the RV Park!

We use the Tow Defender by RoadMaster. When we get the new Jeep Wrangler 4door we may add their Tow Shield. Maybe.

I haven't had any damage to my Jeep and all I use are mud flaps behind the rear duals and a rock guard across the back.

We use the above. We tow a Mazda Miata which sits very low to the ground. The Roadmaster guard has protected the Miata for over 10,000 miles with not one chip anywhere. It takes about a minute to put on. I can't say any better however, as I have no experience with anything else.

We didn't have anything for our toad at first. We got a broken windshield and a broken fog light. So, I bought a front car cover from Coastline Cover Company in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. For what it cost me to replace the windshield and fog light, I could have bought the cover from the start!

The picture of the Protect-a-Tow looks like to me it could be damaged going through a dip. Sometimes, I will drag our trailer hitch depending on how steep driveway or how deep a dip might be. I used to cross my tow chains but they got caught under the tow hitch and rubbed the rubber off to the metal underneath when going through an intersection that had a dip.

MM.

I have welded skids under the hitch frame that prevent it from hitting the ground in a dip. It's pretty rare that they hit anything though.

Protect-A Tow, works best, easy to install, best protection for the money, no storage problems, no weight, works on all vehicles or tow setups.

Hey Ron,

We recently traded for a new Miata PRHT.

This week I will start setting it up to tow. I find myself being much more protective of it than I was with the 90,000 mile 2000.

I have looked at the Protect-A-Tow web site and all I see are pictures of a straight ahead pull.

HOW & WHAT does the it do in a turn. What is the geometry and likage that allows the material on the outside of a turn to get much longer than the inside of the turn?

The Protect-A-Tow mesh fabric has a bungee cord sewn into the edge hem completely around the perimeter. The cord also passes through the attachment clips. As the vehicles turn, the long side stretches out the cord, while the short side bunches up the fabric on the cord if needed. The tension remains relatively even all around.

On edit, here's what the Protect-A-Tow FAQ says about turns:

"What happens when I make a turn?"

"Protect-a-Tow is constructed with an internal heavy duty elasticized cord so when making a turn the elasticized cord stretches on the outside of the turn and relaxes on the inside of the turn. With the aid of the cross bar Protect-a-Tow will not drag on the ground while making turns."

Ron, went to your link and got this.....

The requested URL /products/catalog?q=roadmaster+rock+guard&rls=com.microsoft%3Cimg%20src= was not found on this server.

That’s all we know.
