If I decide to install a counter depth A/C refer in my 5ver, can I run it with a converter between tow vehicle battery and refer? Thanks in advance for your replies. Steve

Hi,

I think you mean an inverter, rather than a converter.

I would look at one of the models that has a 12 volt danfoss compressor.

MOST tow vehicles will not produce enough power to operate a compressor driven fridge. Likely result will be a flat battery at the end of the day.

Check the specs of the fridge your thinking about. We ran a fridge that used about 300W through an inverter that the truck kept up with just fine. A more modern dorm size fridge should use less than that.
Some better fifth wheels use large domestic refers and the TV's keep up with them no problem. Your plan is very doable IMO.

You might want 2 batteries, but it should work, the fridge compressor will only run part time , the alternate and batteries should keep up,
Just make sure the New fridge is the only thing using inverter power, not the WH or absorption fridge or power converter

What is your 12V capacity, and do you have a genny? Also, check the amp rating on your alternator. You'll need to run fat wires to the inverter, too.

A fridge is pretty low draw, just check that it vibes with that same alternator that is charging your 5ver batteries at the same time...if your 5ver batts are low, that draw could be higher than the alternator can output, and you would need to switch to genny to power the fridge.

Cheers!

I only have 1-12v battery in 5ver and 2 in my GMC. No Genny. Steve

Hi,

Yes, you can run a compressor fridge from an inverter from the tow vehicle. It would be good to have the engine running. Typical watt-hours needed are around 1100 per day. That's well within the capabilities of an alternator.

I'd prefer to get a danfoss twelve volt compressor fridge myself.
