Sue t. and Joe b. both deserve a lot of thanks for the information and pictures they have posted and the experience they have shared with all of us. We are heading north to NWT, YT and AK this summer leaving on June 18, (our 45th wedding anniversary) and have used the information from them to help plan our trip. We are looking forward to meeting other RVnet readers on the road. Safe travels to all.

It is amazing how someone such as Sue, can find the strength to expend such effort to provide the wonderful information and photographs of her experiences to those of us on this public forum after such a heart breaking loss. All that I can say is thank you to both you and Steve for sharing your adventures with everyone.

Thank you for the kind words, Bob.
It was difficult to keep my emotions in check while writing about this trip. Yet I felt it important to write about the experience because not all RV trips are trouble-free.
During that difficult period, the folks on the Pet Stop forum here on RV.net were very supportive & helpful via the internet. And as perplexed as we were. Tazz's illness was also perplexing for the vets who saw her.
I felt it important to turn it into a learning opportunity though. Cryptococcal Disease is on the increase on Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland of B.C. and the Northwest USA. It has mutated into a more lethal fungus (Cryptococcus Gattii) that is killing about 25% of the humans who contract it.
Local vets call the disease "the imitator" because it mimics so many health issues. We're now very cautious with our dogs and won't visit Rathtrevor Provincial Park here on Vancouver Island as it is considered the epicentre of the fungus. It is likely where Tazz came in contact with the fungus, as we had camped there twice with her. Ironically, Jake died the night after we returned from a trip to Rathtrevor ... vets didn't know why he was sick either ... who knows? The fungus can be "dormant" in its host for up to 13 months before symptoms become apparent.

I, too, totally enjoyed reading Sue's blog adventures. It was well written, engaging, and the photographs were awesome. I have to confess, that I cried as Tazz passed away....I was thinking of how I'd feel if that happened to Sam (our Golden Retriever) and I could empathize with their pain.
I wish more people could hear about this Blog.

We'll be in Banff and Jasper the last half of JUne, and plan to leave Jasper on July 4 for Dawson Creek. Let us know if you'll be close.
