There are a couple of issues with "Renting" whether it is an RV or a Vacation Home Rental.
Most do not Welcome or encourage Pets. There are Too many Valid reasons to list!
If the Animal is a Registered Guide Dog there are Legal arguments for permitting such an animal to accompany You . However there are also legal rights of refusal. I would certainly not want You to show up with an animal/ Pet of any description without first reading the rental contract and speaking with a person of authority in the Rental Company.
That's a long way to travel to find out that the answer is No!
As to the Togetherness issue that's entirely up to You! We don't like sharing Our Personal space with Others so it would be a No Thanks get Your Own Rig!

My persoal experience, be very leary of a company that wants to rush you through the rental process. Any damage will come out of your deposit. Get any damage signed for by someone in authority, take pictures with the date coded onto the pictures. When we brought our rental unit back, the woman at the desk went out to inspect it, came back with a list of damage supossably caused by our 10 year old Cocker Spaniel. The one thing I missed was a chip on the window over the cab, but she knew right where to look, that cost me $200. She refused to give me the phone number of the previous renter, I wanted to know if he got dinged $200 as well. Anyway, armed with my signed damage report and pictures that were signed by her partner she gave us back the rest of our deposit. On the way out to our car we talked to another couple interested in renting, the woman came out told us not very politely to leave the property. The other couple left as well.
We rented this unit for 2 weeks, with my in-laws, it went well. They had the rear enclosed bedroom, we took the cabover sleeper.
Experience is the result of too many mistakes

When we had an RV (a 36' 5th wheel) and went on trips together with in-laws (who we consider best of friends), we had a rule about our trailer: sits 8, feeds 12, sleeps 2. Worked pretty good for 9 years of at least two trips per year together.
Would recommend separate RV's. Good luck on the dog. I'd have everything in writing before you make payment one.

Renting any vehicle can be risky and you should take your time when accepting the vehicle - do not just sign papers at the counter saying everything is in great shape. Look it over and go back in to the counter to make comments on the papers about every little defect you see. And why not take pictures? that way things like windshield dings won't get charged if they were already there.
You can be sure the rental company will take their time to look it over when you bring it back - you should look it over at least as well before accepting it. of course it is natural to be all excited to get on the road - but 5 extra minutes can save tons of money and lots of future headaches.
Talk to the animals. They will talk back to you. If you don't talk to the animals, they won't talk back to you, and you will fear and when you fear animals you will destroy, and if you destroy the animals, you will destroy yourself.

Quote: There be me, my wife, our German Shepherd (we hope) who'll be almost 2 years old by the and one other couple
The order of priority shown above is likely to be what applies in practice - at least from your point of view - and this is probably completely opposite to that percieved by the other couple.
Forcing another couple to share limited space with a large smelly dog may not do great things for the friendship.

That's not a fair thing to say. Many pets smell better than some people! You're obviously not an animal lover.

Well, I'd rather travel with my dog than people. The couple we travelled with in a 23' Class C one time bickered constantly. DH took to hiding in the bathroom to avoid their issues. She constantly nagged her husband to do this or that, or not do that or this. It was very uncomfortable.
Dog doesn't have personal issues. Eats, sleeps, and likes to play. Doesn't smell either. Not even when wet. Most humans do smell ... usually some stinky aftershave or perfume.
