In case you arrive late in the day and the ranger isn't manning the check-in station. I believe FR 776 is about 4 miles down the road past the ranger's booth.

I would be arriving around 6-7PM so do they lock a gate at the check-in station or is it just open? According to the FS alert, FR 776 at Hwy 89 is closed.

Any ideas or should I call and see what the FS has to say?

What's work? Oh, playing in the sand in the Southwest!
You can find us hanging in our Jayco T 24 ZX or out riding.

No there is no gate. Yes and no on 776 being closed. It's closed by it's normal entrance off of 89. Wish I could draw you a map... 776 normal entrance is about 2 or 3 miles south of Sunset Crater National Monument's entrance. 776 T's into the park's road and 90% of it is open and it is fully functional for the toyhauler/OHV crowd. You just can't get in through the normal entrance because 776 near highway 89 was washed out. Clear as mud now??
