Anybody been to this place? Difficult to get to, since it is in the mountains with a large rig?

Went there last summer with my 24" trailer from So. Cal. and went through the tunnel in the park. If you have a high profile trailer, you will not make it through the tunnel and would have to go around the park and come in from the back side. I left Zion and continued through to Salt Lake. The campground was just a picnic table with some rocks and a little grass on a semi-level, semi-hill. It did have full hookups. They seemed to have a lot of activities going on, along with a pool. We did not partake, due to sightseeing at Zion.

We were there once. It's a beautiful place and a nice facility. The drive up there wasn't too bad. They shut down the traffic in the tunnel and had us drive down the center of the road. Makes you feel "special".

The folks and the food were good.

Stay off the rental quads though. I got to see my wife's femur.

One of the other threads (linked in this one) mentioned Zion Canyon RV Park in Springdale. Is that a better alternative?

I've stayed a few times at the park in Springdale. IMO, if your goal is to visit Zion, then it is a better choice. It is closer to the main area of the park, walking distance, in fact to the visitor's center.

Did you have to pay any damages on the rental quads?

Is your goal to visit Zion or to have a nice stay at a guest ranch? If you want to see Zion, then the Zion Ponderosa Ranch actually isn't that great of a location, because you have to come all the way down the hill (and through the tunnel) every time you go to and from the park.

A great place to stay near Zion River RV Resort. I'd rate that rv park a 9 out of 10. They'd get a 10 if they weren't so hard nosed about enforcing the age limit in the spas. They have a camera on the spa and kick the kids out if they're too young. But that's a "plus" for some folks, so YMMV.

I highly recommend them if you just want to visit Zion. Plus you'll save a ton of money that way.

But if the guest ranch is your target destination, then the Ponderosa was very nice...all things considered.

By the way, if you do plan to wreck a quad, don't do it on a Sunday if you're female. The on-call doctor refused to leave church to treat my wife because she was a woman. "Let the interns deal with her." Real nice.
