But, of course in the Canadian Government, as in ALL other governments the left hand ignores the right hand, and know(cares) not what the other says. See here what Parks Canada says.
Bears in Parks

I like the Border Protection reading though, if the label says it is designed for use against animals, it must not be designed for use against the human animal, so it is OK to bring in. Just don't use it against the guy that kicks thru your door - you may be prosecuted. Course now what if it was dark and you THOUGHT it was a bear ?

On Edit - I posted Park Canada and asked the question that their web site raised.

gmctoyman - WOW - I guess Parks Canada is confused too! That is why I posted - to do my little part in clearing the confusion. Let us know if you get any response from them.

Talk to the animals. They will talk back to you. If you don't talk to the animals, they won't talk back to you, and you will fear and when you fear animals you will destroy, and if you destroy the animals, you will destroy yourself.

I am pretty sure they will strike a royal commission to study it,then present it to Parliment for a vote.

Here is a quote from a site - maybe why our northern brothers can't have the stuff ??

"Bear pepper spray is not a repellent-it cannot be used to keep a bear away from an area, for example-and should not be applied to people, tents, packs or other equipment or to the surrounding area."

Can you see some momma spraying little Johnny down with this stuff to keep the nasty bears away ??

Funny stuff in some of the language used by the manufacturers - they don't know for sure what will be allowed across the border either, seems to be to much "personal opinion" option for the border guards. But I go with what Lawless says - tell them you have bear (or animal) repellent. If they take it, you can bet they need it for themselves.

The "answer" from Parks Canada. No Comment.

Thank you for communicating with Parks Canada.

The final decision regarding this issue will rest in the hands of the Canada Border Services Agency. For that reason, I believe it best to ask them this question.

You can email them here: CBSA-ASFC@canada.gc.ca

You got to love that answer. Yes it is up to the Border authorities if you can bring something into Canada, but they will NOT update your (Park Services) website. So how about either correcting the incorrect information or simply removing it.....

When we went to Alaska three years ago, we were asked at the Sweetwater, MT crossing into Alberta whether we had any mace or pepper spray. I answered "yes." The agent gave me an out, asking whether by any chance it was labeled as bear spray or for protection against animals. I wasn't about to lie, because I knew the next question would be, "May I see it?"

I told him that it was for security, and was told that I would have to surrender it or return to the U.S. He gave me a slip to take into the border crossing guard, where I "surrendered it to the Crown." The agent was very nice about it, to the point that I asked why the Crown needed pepper spray, since I assumed that she already had security. He laughed, but didn't change his story.

If any one is watching this post;

A good 6 pack of Wasp and Bee spray is the best dispersant you can get. It is legal in all 50 states and Canada. YOU CANNOT CARRY ON A PLANE!!
Most products will spray 25' and a continuous stream.
And you do not have to lie to a mounty about having mace or pepper spray just don't say you have wasp spray.

Good luck
