Well I finally did it! I put a deposit down on the trailer I've been looking at over the past couple months - the Komfort Resort 240RK!

The link above is of the exact unit I put the deposit on.

The salesguy I have been dealing with wasn't there today, so I wasn't able to start price negotiations, but, if all goes well when he gets in Saturday, I'll be the proud owner of a new TT!

One item of concern I have is that the fiberglass nose of this particular unit looks really wavy. There is obviously something wrong with it, as none of the other Resorts on the lot have this issue.

I pointed it out to the salesguy that was helping me tonight, and he said they had noticed it and realized it needed repair. I asked if it had to go back to the factory for the fix (fortunately only a half hour away), but he said Komfort would likely have them fix it at the dealership. He said it was likely just tweaked a little, and once they loosened everything up and reset it, it would smooth out and all would be fine. He said it would only be about a half day job, too.

Is this something I should be concerned about? I certainly don't want any issues down the road, and I really hope he wasn't trying to downplay the issue. The trailer was built last month, so it's maybe a month old. Could this possibly help with my price negotiations?

I'm certainly excited, as I have a big trip coming up Labor Day Weekend with family and friends where we reserve a whole loop, and I'd love to tow out the new rig and surprise everyone!

Thanks for any input!

I realize that you are in love with it now but what if something bad is wrong under there? Where will the love be then especially when you had the hunch that there was a problem. If it were me, I would certainly pass on that unit. There must be something else out there that will fit your needs.

Many states have a time period that allows you to back out of a deal. I would invoke that if there is one. Then negotiate about the fix. Be careful about letting emotions rule your deal.

Nice floorplan! Why not just get a new one rather than take the one on the lot? It shouldn't take that long and labor day is still a month away.

Run away from that thing and get your deposit back.

Also, you can NOT negotiate a price AFTER your have put down a deposit - they have you by the balls and will be inflexible on price. You are not is a negotiating situation.

First agree on price before you put down a dime, and if you have already seen a defect with the trailer, FIRST have them fix it before you proceed any further in the transaction, or, run away - fast.

Don't buy anything you're not 100% satisfied with. Ever.

Why would you put down a deposit on a unit you have not negotiated the final price on? Don't mean to be harsh... but seriously, think about it.

I'd want to see that unit with the nose off. Most likely it has been leaking and has water damage. Komfort makes a great unit but in the PNW a unit that is not regularly maintained and sealed will leak. Realizing this is a brand new unit, NO WAY would I let the dealer do the fix. They simply are not equipped to take care of major repairs regardless of what they tell you.

IMHO there are only two brands of trailers i'd even consider. One is Komfort, the other is Artic Fox.

BTW, you don't negotiate with the salesguy. You get the owner or general manager and negotiate with him

Thanks for the input everyone!

I'm not too concerned about the "deposit" I put down, as it really is just a 48 hour hold to keep the trailer from getting sold until I talked with my salesguy Saturday.

At first I was told I would have to put a $200 deposit down that was fully refundable, but then the guy decided not even to run my credit card. Even on my copy of the purchase order he wrote "48 HR HOLD."

I took the guy at his word that they would be able to fix it pretty easily and it was no big deal, but it seems as though you all think I should run away from this particular unit. I wasn't planning on signing anything or giving them any more than maybe a $200 deposit until after the front end repair was completed to my satisfaction, as well as a couple items I noted on my initial inspection of the trailer.

From the sound of it, maybe I should avoid this particular unit, so I'll talk with the salesguy Saturday to see if they have a comparable model at their other lot or how long it would take to get a new one. The guy I talked to today estimated it would be 8-12 weeks to get a new one ordered from the factory, which would make delivery at the tail-end of the camping season.

I would see what it looks like after they fix it and then decide if you want to buy it or not. If the factory is that close you would think they'd send it back. I've been looking at some new trailers also and can't for the life of me understand why a dealer would have a new trailer on the lot that needs repairs before they sell it. Why not fix the darn thing so it looks presentable? Doesn't say much for their prep department does it?

Thanks Backin15! After MONTHS of searching, this is definitely my favorite floorplan. The trailer is a little bigger than I initially wanted, yet nothing smaller has what I'm looking for. I particularly like the neutral colors (doesn't feel like I'm stuck in the 80's when I walk inside!), not to mention the unique color outside versus the standard white of most units.

I'm going to check on the availability of new units coming off the line, but I was told if I "custom-ordered" one, it might take 8-12 weeks. Maybe they can just buy a similarly equipped unit coming off the line, rather than a custom-ordered one. I'll find out for sure on Saturday.
