If have a 1996 Itasca Suncruiser with this Norcold model 682. Unit worked fine 3 weeks ago on gas or a/c. Went to turn it on gas mode (without any 120v pluged in) tonight and you can hear the electric spark working and for maybe 10 seconds, you can see a little flame lite up and then it goes out and the X comes on inside. I have plenty of gas and valve is turned on full at the tank. Unit will run on 120v fine.
Any ideas??
Thanks John

You might check to see if the 12volt switch behind the refrigerator is gettin 12volts to it. Remove the outside access cover and the switch will be to your left front. Good luck.

Since the ignitor is operating and you get a small flame for a second im steering towards 1 of 3 things. 1) there could be a blockage in your burner causing low flame. next time you try it smell for raw propane around burner area. 2)faulty gas valve only partially opening. 3) since it is a 96 there could be oil (ethyl mercaptin) built up in your lp line in a low point alowing to build up pressure with no demand but then fizzles out when under demand, if you are not equiped with the proper tools to test lp pressure at the burner it may be worth the time and money to call a service guy or shop to proper diag it. sounds like the thermocouple is not producing enough voltage to open the gas valve....a safety feature to shut gas off when flame goes out.
it sits over the flame (which should be blue) ensure that it is clean and situated where it will get the hottest. sometimes they just give up the ghost and need to be replaced. other times they may need a little physical adjustment and cleaning.
with those symptoms, that's what I would check...however your set up may be different

If those things don't work check to see if there might have been a piece of rust/debris that has fallen down on top of the burner. Or if you can't see, just take an air gun and blow the area out good, including the gas/air mixture adjustment. Spiders are attracted to the propane smell and will sometimes crawl in the mixture setting adjuster. It's probably just debris on the burner though. Your manual will tell you how to perform your annual maintenance.

If it runs for a while then dies it could be the thermocouple is out of adjustment and slightly touching bottom of flue when heated up which creates a false reading and shuts the flame off, need 3\16 inch between tip and bottom of flue.

Just to cover another possibility while you're at it...you should make sure your house batteries are well charged. Lower DC voltage can cause the circuit board to malfunction. Does the unit work on gas mode when plugged into shore power or when the engine is running?

This fridge uses a flame sensor that sends.asignal tothecontrolboard
It lights but the flame os small, not enough flame sothe lp is turned off by thecontrol board or your 12v might be weak
Start by checking the burner and the jet tube,a spider.may have built a web , other there maybe dirt in there
Options, always have options, and the journey goes much smoother

Watch it with that fridge. I had to replace ours in the new to us '93 Cheiftain. Within the first day of having it home, there was an unplanned thermal event on LP. Before that, it started doing what you are describing just after getting home. After pulling it to inspect, you could see the fire started from a leaky control vavle. I was going to replace the valve and chared wires. After seeing the valve was superceded with a new part number, and the part number was more than just the valve. I called Norcold thinking it was a recal unit, or at least one they were looking into. Norcold's responce was "it's a 17 year old unit what do you want us to do?" I just explained my concern over the fire, and it should be looked into. I replaced the fridge with a new one, but I have saved the old one and sent photos to NHTSA. The old fridge is out in the barn in the event of a recall on this model. If you do a seach on google, there are several complaints on the 682.

I tried it again this morning on gas mode, burner will not lite. I've tried to start it in gas mode with and without shore power hooked up, same thing. I'm getting plenty of spark, I think, at least by the sound, (click, click, click) of the electronic spark and seeing a little pilot flame but it will just not fire up the burner. I can lite all three burners on the stove and the water heater will lite up and run so I know I've got plenty of gas. I'll try and see if there is something blocking the burner tonight. I've got it plugged into shore power now to get it running and cold.
Thanks for everyones help.
I'll let you know what I find if anything.
