I'm traveling across the country for the first time with our Honda CR-V behind us, 4 down. In the manual, it indicates that it should be towed at 65mph max or else transmission damage can occur. To be safe, I'm going around 60-62. What has amazed me is how fast many other MH's are going with dinghys in tow. It's made me wonder if others are just choosing to disregard the manufacturer specs of their toads, or if the CR-V is just limited? How fast do most of you go when towing 4 down?

In my Tioga, I drive 60 to 65, with occasional bursts to 70, towing or not.
Keep in mind that in some states if you are towing ANYTHING, you are limited to the truck speed limit.
My Jeep has no limitation as to speed while towing, but I have a comfort limit.
60 to 65 is my limit, usually.
Getting there 5 or 10 minutes sooner just doesn't impress me all that much!

On the west coast, any vehicle in combination, and you would be considered to be in combination, is limited to truck speeds. 60 here in Washington. Even motorcycles with trailers are limited to that speed. What's your hurry anyway?

I have towed my CRV for hours at a time at 70. I have had no problems. It is an all wheel drive.

Going 60 / 65 or 70 may not be the real problem, but the transmission
gets pretty Hot after you drive for 5-6-7 hours.

IIRC my tracker said to tow at 50 or 55. I got in the habit of towing below 60 and it was amazing just how much more relaxing driving at that speed was. also mileage was much better.

Generally speaking I like 65 mph and toad choice has nothing to do with that. However with a tail wind or no wind or traffic sometimes 70 is the magic number. When I'm digging into a huge climb I've hit 75-80. IIRC the Vue is limited to 65 in the manual.

There are wide variations in the specifications and limitations of toads. Some have speed restrictions, some have distance restrictions (after which you must start the engine and cycle through gears.) Some have both, some have neither. This is just like there are so many variations in equipment setups: some need lube pumps, some need axle locks or driveshaft disconnects, some need nothing.
My toad needs no modifications, and has no speed or distance restrictions -- put the transfer case in neutral, put the transmission in park, take the keys, lock the door, and tow as far and as fast as you wish.
Of course, while the toad gives me no speed restrictions, local laws and my own comfort level do impose some limits. I generally keep it at the local legal limit, or 65, whichever is lower. Although I will take it up to 70 on occasion, if the local conditions allow, and on the rare occasion that I see a speed limit that's over 65. Around here on the East coast, seeing anything above 65 is very rare. If I ever head to areas where towing speed limits are up in the 70 to 80 range, I'll have to reconsider my comfort levels. Of course, if the speed limits are that high, the traffic is probably lighter and the roads are probably better than what we have here, so it may not be a big issue. At least I know that if I run into such a situation, my toad won't be the limiting factor.

there are no speed, distance or time restrictions of any sort on our jeeps ('03 wrangler and '10 liberty) but my max speed in the MH (towing or not) is 65-mph and more likely 62-63. i tend to keep up with traffic up to 65.
