How did you recharge the batteries? If gen/charger, how many amps intitial charging and what amps did you stop the charge at? (for both batteries, not amps per battery --ie stopping at 10amps is at 5 amps per battery) Or do you have solar as well?

How many days in a row did you do this for and what was your recharging routine? Every day, every second day, what? And how long per each occasion? Like four hours a day but two hours at a time, or what?

(I use 12.3 as being 60% but sources vary on that)

Thanks

We run our genny for a total of a few hours a day while camping w/o electric hookups; usually while inside the camper (preparing meals, etc) and wanting the fans on -- charge and run the fans at the same time.

I have a battery disconnect switch, and disconnect the batteries from the charge converter and use a dedicated 30A 3-stage charger to charge the batteries. This charger automatically switches to float mode when the batteries are charged, and doesn't get confused by varying 12V loads in the TT, because the charge converter powers them, and is isolated from the batteries and charger during the charging process.

I didn't pay real close attention to when the batteries were done charging, but within a couple hours the charger was usually in float mode.

I could probably have gotten away with charging every other day, but I like to go into the quiet hours with fully charged batteries.

We use the Melitta cones with a thermos both on the road and at home. Boil the water on the stove with a teapot, and the thermos keeps the coffee hot for hours. The sets are difficult to find new, but they show up on eBay all the time:

Melitta/Thermos

Faster than most electric coffee makers, and much easier to clean up and store. The Melitta cones are easy to find, and you might already have a thermos that works ....

Sure you can us a inverter for drip coffee..but it does pull your batts down significantly.
I have stayed away from a inverter and have bought everything 12 volt except the micro and water heater(which I run on gas).
The gen runs the micro for what little we use it.
I have a 12 volt 22" lcd with dvd that I really like.
12 volt cell phone chargers.
We really rough it "camping" nowadays...lol.

We do have a small inverter that plugs into a 12 volt outlet if the need ever comes up..charging camera battery's and what not.

If I don't go anywhere while boon docking I just run the rv for a hour or less in the morning and again at night.
I swear the 145 amp alternator charges the battery way faster then the gen.
I know the batts are not getting 145 amps but it still must be higher then my converter...and the rv motor does not seem to use much gas doing that.

Your results may very.lol

jas67, thanks for explaining your recharging routine. I am working on refinements to ours so seeing yours helps.

I love perc'ed coffee. If it wasn't for the convenience of those electric drip things I would go back to perced on the stove in an instant.

Found my 12 volt coffee maker today but it only makes cowboy coffee, and though I do qualify for that title.. Cowboy coffee is not my cup of tea.

What I brew with is a 1-cup coffee maker, since I'm the only coffee drinker in the house. Runs just fine off my Prosine 2.0.. Very good job.

Dutch, a simple solution to a problem. Love it. Why carry around multiple coffee makers if you don't need to.

All we do when we don't have hookups and don't feel like firing up the genny is heat up a pan of water on the stove and pour it through the basket on our electric drip coffeemaker.
Thats exactly what we do, good thing about that is the coffee is hotter and ready faster, Lance
