I would like to make sausage gravy ahead of time and freeze it (yummo, biscuits & gravy on a camping trip...)

Think it'll taste good when thawed? (I'm thinking yes because milk can be frozen successfully, but I don't know for sure about the whole thing.)

Anyone tried it?

Thanks.

Regards,
Michelle

Check in the freezer section of your local grocery store. Chances are someone is already selling some kind of frozen dinner with sausage gravy. If they can do it, you can do it.

There's nothing like homemade sausage gravy!

I have frozen my homemade sausage gravy before. It's fine defrosted. It's a little thick, but you can thin it down a bit with some milk when you re-heat it.

I make my sausage gravy with Wonder flour. Great for making any kind of gravy. It doesn't get lumpy like regular flour. Wonder Flour can be found in most grocery stores on the shelf, near the flour and corn starch. It's in a tall blue cylinder container.

You're right - nothing beats homemade sausage gravy!!! I just made a small batch and put it in the freezer (well, ALMOST all of it went into the freezer...the rest went directly into my mouth!)

Anyway, I always forget to look for that Wondra flour. I've put it on my list now! Thanks for the reminder.

I always thought Wondra was just super-fine flour. It's more than that. Google it. Interesting.

Michelle

Easiest sausage gravy recipe is on Bob Evan's Sausage wrapper. Fry out the 1 pound of meat, then sprinkle 3 tablespoons on Wondra on the meat, stir around the meat and flour (meat and roux all in one), then slowly add 3 cups of milk and cook until thickened. If you want more gravy just add one tablespoon of oil, one more tablespoon of Wondra, and another cup of milk. It seems to work best with Bob Evans Sausage - minimal fat.

Ah.... bad Judy it's Wondra Flour Not Wonder Flour

I use Jimmy Dean HOT sausage. Nice and spicy and pretty lean too.

Yes, please make ahead. It freezes well. I have done it. Just add a little water or milk when reheating.
Happy Camping/RVing!

Talking about Bob Evans, they have a frozen version of their sausage gravy that is heat and serve. It's pretty good if you like their restraunt version.

Seal a meal. Then just boil to reheat.
