I slightly disagree this time.
Willow Tree is approximately 10-15 minutes from the beach. What's the problem in suggesting that as long as the location is clear. If the OP is interested, he'll look into it. If he ain't, he'll move on.
We're headed to Willow Tree soon and looking forward to it. While there, we'll go to the beach and hang out around Myrtle some. We've been to Ocean Lakes and loved it. But if Willow Tree is even better, that'll probably be our "beach trip" from now on.
It's all in the eye of the RVer.

lawn.....I'm just saying that if I want to go to Myrtle Beach, then Willow Tree might be the best. BUT, if I want to go to THE beach, it's got to be ON the beach for me. I don't want the drive to get there. I want to hear that ocean crashing on shore. JMO of course.

While it is 15 to 20 min from the beach, and that would be Cherry Grove, and Cherry Grove is very nice. But it is an hour in MB traffic to MB, If that is where a person wants to go.
As I stated before. Loading up all your beach stuff, and DRIVING in heavy traffic to a parking spot in a Public Beach access with NO restrooms, and then IF you need the restroom, DRIVING back to your camper. Is waaaay different than walking out of your camper onto the beach, watching the sun come up, and walking back for breakfast, Then walking back out any time you want. And returning to the camper for drinks, or just to get out of the sun for a minute, eat lunch, and go back. Then go out and fly kites after supper. Then walking out on the beach at night to look at the moon, and see the crabs scurry across the sand. That is what the beach is all about. Being lazy, and being a beach bum. That stuff is hard to do frm 10 to 15 miler away.
We were at the beach for a week a few weeks ago. I saw the sun come out of the ocean 4 times. I saw a ball of bait fish being eaten by Dolphin, and Sharks. I flew my kite several times, and Shay and I walked on the beach many times, and jusr sat and let the surf wash up on us. That is why we go to the beach.
For US, and many, many, like us. If we can't stay on the beach, we would just stay home, or go to the mountains. There is only one reason to go to the beach, and that is the beach itself. You can golf, or shop anywhere. And it is cooler on the beach. Especially at night. Staying off the beach. Would be like kissing your sister.
As for MB. The only reason we go to Myrtle. Is because. That is where the oceanfront CGs are. We rarely leave the CG once we get there. Have not been downtown MB in 35 years.
As I said before. Willow Tree is very nice. But not a beach CG.

Myrtle Beach Travel Park for us. It is a little smaller, in a much better location for us, and no golf carts. Easy access to most anything we need, and a nice 2 mile stretch of undeveloped beach just north of it to walk along without crowds.
I am sure Willow Tree is very nice, but like several others, when I go to the beach, I want to be at the beach, not 10 miles away. If I want a lake and a pool, I can go up the road about 20 miles and have that anytime. That is the primary reason I never go to Virginia Beach even though it is closer. Campgrounds aren't on the beach.

We spent a week at Myrtle Beach Travel Park this summer and for us it was great. Only permanent residents are allowed to have golf carts so that was not an issue. Also, you can choose from shaded or non-shaded sites.
BTW, we drove through Apache Campground to get access to the pier and we were not impressed at all. It looked like mostly permanent residents and not a place we would want to stay.

Here is my favorite campground review site. Golf carts in the campgrounds are a hot topic for Myrtle Beach, I hope you find this site helpful.

We are trying to avoid a campground that has as many golf carts as campers.
I feel the same way about carts. Forget about Ocean Lakes. Pirate Land is almost as bad when it comes to carts.
Our top 2 choices are Myrtle Beach Travel Park and Huntington Beach State Park.
I second this!!

Travel Park for us, we just returned from there and had a great time. There are golf carts just not as many as other places. I did notice that people were shooting fireworks every night, very loud, and no one stopped it all week. I still like MBTP and will return next year.

I appreciate all the help. After reading everything and discussing with my DW and DD, we are going to try Pirateland. I have my fingers crossed the carts won't be too bad at the end of the month.
