I was at Lakewood 2 yrs ago in August and the golf carts were crazy. MBTP is really difficult to get in,however might find a cancellation. If you are near Hilton Head the coach park is great, 1 mile from beach.

We just returned from Myrtle Beach today. We stayed at Myrtle Beach Travel Park but drove through all of the similar RV parks. MBTP says in their rules that the only golf carts allowed are those by permanent residents. We saw a few but it wasn't bothersome. Ocean Lakes had so many golf carts that we had difficulty driving through. There was one that drove by with loud rap music with profanity and lots of bass. My wife decided then that we weren't ever staying there.
Pirate Land was better than Ocean Lakes but not much. I found Willow Tree online before we left but didn't get a chance to visit - it looks nice though.
We really enjoyed our stay at MBTP and plan on returning.

We stayed at pirateland 3 years in a row. Nothing beats ocreanfront camping. Its great for the kids..lots to do here. The Golf carts were insane! they had security..but they were not match for the hundreds of carts..especially at night.

The OP ask about a ocean front campground. And as always people start pushing Willow Tree, which I'm sure is a very nice CG. But it is not on the beach, It is not real close to Myrtle Beach. It does not have a ocean pool. It does not have a beach, nor ocean. You can't on a whim take a walk on the beach. You have to drive to the closes't beach. Cherry Grove, or Sunset, and try to find a parking place at a beach access. Of course then, if you need to go to the bathroom. you have to drive back to your camper.
If you want the beach. A ocean front CG is the only choice. Why drive hundreds of miles, and stop miles short of your destination.

Unfortunately the criteria for your campground of choice doesn't exist in Myrtle Beach. You must be willing to compromise on the concrete pad or the golf cart issue. Depending on the dates of your travel, you may find it difficult to reserve a site at any of the beachfront cg's. Apache may have an opening if the others are booked. It is my belief that no matter which campground that you stay at (even if golf carts are present) a terrific vacation shall ensue...

The words ocean front does not appear in his post. Willow Tree does have a white sand beach on the spring fed lake. It does have 2 pools , hot tubs, volley ball, game room , water slide etc. Maybe does not want to stay in a giant parking lot. Maybe he does. He ask for ANY reccomendations.

Well..... You say you are going at the end of August. If you mean the VERY end of August, many schools are back in business by then. The golf cart problems virtually disappear, once school is back in session. We were at Ocean Lakes in mid-May and there were golf carts, but nothing like has been described by others. OL has sites with and without conctete pads, you are steps from the ocean and the amenities are top notch. We loved the place and booked for 2 weeks in May next year.

He did say Ocean pool. I'm sure Willow Tree is very nice. It is just not a beach CG, of any kind. For a good many of us. There is only one reason to go to the beach, and that is the beach. No point in going, If You can't walk on it any time you want. May as well go to the mountains where it is cool.

I agree with Terryallan. When I go to the beach, I want to be AT the beach.
I do want to stay at Willow Tree someday as I have always heard nothing but good things about it.My only problem is that I don't get a chance to get to the beach as much as I would like to, so I go only To the beach to stay.
