We are making some late travel plans so I can see my 96 year old grandfather this summer. Part of this is we are going to go to Myrtle Beach for the second half of the week. We haven’t gone to Myrtle Beach before, and I need some recommendations. My family consists of my DW, 10 yr old DD, and yellow lab puppy. We are going at the end of August.

We are trying to avoid a campground that has as many golf carts as campers. We stayed at Beth Page a few years ago, and the kids driving the golf carts were a negative for us. We like the idea of the Ocean, pool, and kid activities at the park. My DW loves the idea of the concrete pad to reduce the amount of sand coming into the camper, and I like to park on a concrete pad to make leveling it easier. I have looked online, and Pirateland and Ocean Lakes seem to be nice campgrounds. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks,

If you don't mind a 10 minute drive to the beach and would like a peaceful setting try Willow Tree Resort.

Haven't been to Ocean Lakes in many years - it was nice as I recall - so I can't comment on the golf cart issue. Myrtle Beach Travel Park is a very nice CG at which we've stayed in the "off season." I seem to recall posts on this Forum noting golf cart traffic there in the summer.

For no golf carts. Myrtle beach Travel Park is the answere. But I didn't see concrete pads, and Do you really want one. It makes the campsite 5 times hotter.

also. Pirateland seems to have a better handel on their golf Carts than the others, and is a great CG. You would probably have a better chance of getting in than O)L, or MBTP this summer. They also have alazy river, and indoor pool. The Concrete pads are very close to the beach as well.
Always better to stay on the beach, and have all the comforts of the camper at hand, than to drive to a Public beach access, and have no restrooms, showeres, or any facilities at all. That would kill any beach fun. Having the beach right outside the camper, is really what the beach is all about.

BTW leveling is not a problem at ANY of the MB Campgrounds.

I feel the same way about carts. Forget about Ocean Lakes. Pirate Land is almost as bad when it comes to carts.

Our top 2 choices are Myrtle Beach Travel Park and Huntington Beach State Park.

Myrtle Beach Travel Park. Only residents (and perhaps seasonals--I can't remember) are allowed to have golf carts. So they are much less of a headache there than at the other campgrounds. And in our opinion the location of MBTP is superior if you prefer to do things other than hang around the beach and pool. But MBTP doesn't have concrete sites.

I agree, I would pick MBTP over pirateland but both have golf carts in the camp ground but does not seem to bad at all and a quick walk to the beach.

Lakewood here...they have carts but keep them under better control then Ocean Lakes. Also SC requires a drivers license to use a cart off a golf course...same here in NY now. Remember the schools are open around 8/15 or so, so the season is winding down. Lots of good deals shopping. Also if you like fireworks, you can shoot them off over the ocean in the campgrounds on the ocean, not in city limits tho

Lakewood is our choice too. We were just there a few weeks ago. There are no concrete pads, though, and while there were golf carts they aren't as crazy as we remember them in Pirateland.
