We are trying to cope with an Internet Stick located in a fringe area. We have a dual RF amplifier (Wilson) cabled to a mobile Mag Mount Antenna. For the most part we seem to be able to make it work EXCEPT for being disconnected when the connection is idle. For example, this post was originally entered in a TXT document and copy and pasted to this post. I do this because if there is any delay (inaction) while connected I have to disconnect and reconnect in order to make this post stick. Can anyone tell me if this normal for an Internet Stick or do I maybe have a "fringe" area problem. Thanks.

What do you mean by an "internet stick"? Is this a Wireless Data(i.e. 3G) and which carrier, or a WiFi USB adapter? Have you tried doing a basic line quality and speed test at Pingtest.net and Speedtest.net

I have that problem when in a roam area where verizon has contracted with a secondary carrier. If I am idle for short time I am booted and sometimes have to try several times to get back on. It is the secondary issue not verizon.

Which carrier? We are really remote. But I don't usually have problems in mornings or cloudy days with a similiar setup with antenna on our Verizon USB stick. Right now I'm on CG wifi which isn't much more reliable.

I See. The Internet Stick is like a Thumb Drive in appearance.
I may be an Idle Disconnect for what ever reason.
Documentation may describe this function of this "Internet Stick". What MFG?

Are you sure it is your internet provider?
What you describe is something the server for these forums sometimes has problems with. I too sometimes will copy my post prior to sending "IN CASE" it dosen't send properly. It acts like you are not connected. This situation, many times is just the forums server.

It is a USB "Mobile Internet Key" manufactured by Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, Model E182E and the service provider is Telus which is a Western Canadian Telephone Company.

... and by the way I tried making this response via the USB "stick" and it did not take (I lost the connection) so I am using my dial up ISP to get this posted.

The problem rarely happens on my "dial up" ISP but it happens 99% of the time using the "internet stick". Problem also happens on other sites, for example Kijiji etc ... so it is like I am being bumped because I am a slow "two finger" typer. (Ancient Chinese Proverb: "He who types with two fingers is old fart.")

Mine shuts off when idle too long also. But it is several minutes.

There is somewhere in the tools that regulates how long of a time before it disconnects due to idle time. Although i have heard of some providers that have started doing this to save 'their' bandwidth going out there to those of us that have unlimited access. Mine didn't disconnect 2 years ago.....now it does. They do have control over us don't they?

Just remembered the actual proverb: "He who types with two fingures is old pecker."
