I use the lock for long trips. Possible wiggle loose, also someone forgetting key-pin or to close hitch, or someone else tampering with it. And for theft prevention. My DD had a utility trailer stolen even with hitch lock. They pulled the pin on reciever and hooked up to theirs. It took two being stolen before I started locking it in. I use a lot of locks now for various things on the TV and HTT and have not had a problem since.
