I'm looking at a new Keystone Cougar High Country and might end up ordering from the factory. The LCD is listed as required and runs over $1000 for a Jensen 720p panel. It's way over priced. My question is can I elect not to purchase the TV and buy what I want on my own and put it in?
Anyone have any experience with this?

My guess would be that if you order it, you should be able to delete the TV. If you buy one off the lot, doubtful. Dealer might work something out with you if he has another outlet, but don't expect to get the 1K knocked off the price. Just mho...

Tell him that you're Amish and can't own a TV! There's no way that Jensen would last thru the 90 day warranty period (LCD JUNK!) anyway, so sweet talk the dealership and see how much he'll knock off...

I have not met many Amish in North Hollywood, but that does sound like good advice.
Most dealers will knock off about 15% in a basic RV sale price. To get 25% reduction takes some research, and visiting several dealers. So if the basic price is say $20,000, then expect to see a sale price of $18,999 or $18,599? Yet at a special sale, they might come down to $16,999 and when you ask if they can come down $500 more to make a deal today, they probably will.
Don't expect they will sell many at $15,000, because if they kept selling them at that price, they would not stay in business, and could not pay their employees.
Removing the TV from several RV's and knocking off $1,000 is not practical either. They are expecting to only get about 75% of the asking price for the RV after paying the salesperson about 3% - 5% commission, and paying a share of the cost of each RV sold each month to advertise. So the $1,000 TV is actually only going to bring in about $750 once you consider the overhead of the dealer. In dealing for a fair price, taking out the TV might only bring the dealer's total price by a couple of hundred below what you can ask them to sell it to you for with the TV in it.
I would go shopping in Ventura, where you will find the dealers don't have as expensive of property, and tend to pay everyone a little less than the LA area. So you might find a better deal. Or you might find that with only a limited number of dealers, they are asking more. You never know until you look.
Also the Inland Empire, they sometimes offer great deals. Just it is a bit far to take it back to the dealer for warranty work.
Good Luck,
Fred.

Sounds like the TV is a required . . . option, LOL!
Best thing you can do is what has already been suggested -
*if* you must have that brand - try to work something out with the dealer.
BTW - (IMO) forget Ventura and the IE - get *WAY* out of So. CA for the best deal/s!
Not sure of that model - TT or 5th?
But you might take your question to the appropriate forum - other TT or 5th owners may have had experience with the "required option".

How much will it cost to make it not look like a "missing" TV?

If you are ordering it built to spec you can indeed delete the TV and put in your own.. If you are picking it off the lot and taking it with you.
Then what is on the lot is what you get.

If your ordering you can delete the options you don't want. We deleted the RV funiture on our 2010 Mobile Suites. We also just upgrade from a 32" Samsung LDD to a 40" LED and paid just a little over $1,100 for the new 40" Samsung LED. We also deleted the bedroom TV because we had a 19" Samsung LCD. Keep in mind your doing the ordering and can decide what you want to delete. GBY....

Must disagree!
Big diff between deleting (or not ordering) "options".
Just as the word implies an "option" is *OPTIONAL*.
~
The above is absolutely *NOT* true of all mfgrs.
Some *do* have required packages which include sound systems & TVs.
(It's *NOT* an "option", LOL!)
Only way around that is working something out with the dealer.

You will also have to ask for the steel wheel option because they don't use rubber tires either.
