I am thinking about putting in a Fantastic vent fan but have a few questions:

Can I open the vent and not operate the fan?

Amazon has the 4000R (3 speed & reverse) and the 500RBT (3 speed, reverse & thermostat) for the same price $174.99

Is the 5000RBT thermostat worth getting or not.

You can operate the fan with the vent open. there is a safety shut off if the vent is closed so the fan will not operate.

You will love it! in/out t-stat. Add the maxaire cover and you got a cadillac. Happy trails.

FYI, if you install it in the bathroom, shut off the vent fan before flushing the toilet. It will pull some very unpleasant fumes out of your black tank.

Maxxair makes several different vents and vent covers. Their FanMate is advertised as being best for powered vents but I've not seen any test evidence to support that claim. Nonetheless I have a FanMate over my bathroom powered vent.

I thought the Maxxaire cover was recomended for use with the Fantastic Vent?

By the way, I just ordered a 4000R from a company called Global Trucker for $138 including shipping. They are one of the official dealers of Fantastic Vents.
