We spent the weekend at space 61 in the park and we found it to be exceptional. The camp host was friendly and informative of the park and its history, along with sites outside the park. This park sits on Lake Blackshire and has fishing docks located in the camping area. There is also a terrific beach area and a mini golf course. The DW and grandkids loved it. The DW and I are planning on returning again next month. This may become our home away from home.

Show us some pics, I haven't camped there in 30+ years. Did you make it over to Fresh-Air BBQ while you were there??

Its not on or off Lake Blackshear, Lake Blackshear IS PART OF THE Georgia Veterans State Park. Indian Springs State Park IS Located off I-75 in middle Georgia, Indian Springs is thought to be the oldest state park in the nation. It was acquired by the state in 1825 and became an official "State Forest Park" in 1927. The Creek Indians used the springs for centuries to heal the sick and impart extra vigor to the well. During the 1800s, the area was a bustling resort town.

Today, visitors can still sample the spring water while enjoying the park’s cottages, camping, swimming, fishing and boating. Many structures within the park, such as the spring house, were built during the Great Depression by members of FDR’s Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). A museum (hours limited) highlights Creek Indians, the resort era and CCC history. The park's Lake McIntosh is named for the Creek Chief William McIntosh who, in 1825, signed the illegal Treaty of Indian Springs, deeding Indian land to the state of Georgia. He was soon assassinated by his people for treason.

So right you are, I was reading about Lake Blackshear and put that in by mistake. Thanks for the correction. I'll see about posting some pics later today of the camping area.

We too enjoyed Indian Springs SP but on another trip, we stayed at High Falls SP in the same area which was also nice but with a bit more maneuvering room.

We love Indian Springs and camp there every December when visiting family that live near-by...It's a great State Park and campground..and we also eat at Fresh-Air BBQ..yum...we had been to High Falls on day trips before, and decided to camp there once for something different....it's a nice park, but our experience was, since it is so close to the interstate, it must be a popular stop for over-nighters, and there was constant traffic coming in and out and it was noisy....it didn't bother us a bit, just wasn't the peace and quiet we were looking for..may have been because it was close to the Holidays and may not always be like that...we would camp there again...we liked the water falls and the catfish restaurant...both parks are nice...but we prefer Indian Springs...glad you enjoyed it....we have great State Parks in GA...we're proud to say we have camped at or visited 42 of them and we hope to see them all.

My mom grew up eating at Fresh Air BarBQ and loves it, got DH hooked on it. But there is something about it that I don't like. Not sure what it is but just don't like it. So while camping at High Falls they go over and get some and bring back to the camper and enjoy while I enjoy something else.

As promised, here are 3 pictures of the park.

Main Road Campground #2

Our camp spot

Lower entrance sign.

Rvers beware, do not go into the lower entrance, the climb to the top is murder and the gate people do not warn you. We did it pulling a 30ft TT and REALLY wondered if we would make it or have to back down. We did make it, but barely. Oh by the way, no we did not make it to the BBQ place. We were having too much fun at the campground and beach area. Never left the park.

Last time we were there they had the upper entrance closed. Since we had come in through Jackson we 1st had to find somewhere to turn around, not fun. Then 2nd when you go in the lower entrance your going out of the park when you drive up to the office, more fun. But after we got set up we had a great time with friends we hadn't camped with in several years.
