I seem to have water now inside this new white rubber seal after every rain when I pack up the front bunk. Not sure if that's good/bad or correct/incorrect. Anyone else have this after the repair?

I never really paid attention to any area except the bottom corners because that's where I could actually see damage being done. In my opinion so long as there isn't water actually inside the HTT I'm good.

so your fix does not include the new outer seal

Originally I had a very hard white plastic wrapped around the edges which looked to be there just to protect the door edges. The white foam/weather seal thing was installed as part of the fix kit by my dealer. This made closing the bunk door more difficult (tighter) to close. It now does NOT have that seal along the outer edge.

nyannucc wrote:

you are showing a gap when your new door is closed, is this on the top also? Is this gap also on the top and if so, did they put in a better gutter?

There is indeed a gap along the sides but there is NOT a gap at the top. There was a very large gap before I took it to Indiana but I don't know if it was there all along or if it showed up post "fix kit." As far as the gutter goes I don't think they changed that at all.

nyannucc wrote:

All in all, it looks like a lot of work went into ensuring the seals were of proper length...could that be it?

Based on my epexiernce with these seals and there poor adhesive, I would suspect this would be an ongoing maintenance/watch item.

Personally I think the leaking was because of the seals. If water is still getting in there eventually that glue backing is going to give way. The way they've constructed/fixed mine up I don't believe enough will get back there to affect but yes I'll be watching them.

After reading several threads on the "fix kit" it sounds like there have been multiple versions. You're right though, so long as your HTT is dry who cares(;

I decided to have the retrofit done, while still under warranty. but i'm a little leery that i may now have leaks since the fix was done.

I was very disappointed after my dealer did the retrofit and it leaked so bad. I was really sold that this was going to fix my problems. I would suggest towing it in the rain the first chance you get just to be sure. I haven't towed mine in the rain yet so who knows, maybe I'll be right back to square one... crossing all fingers and toes that we're both good!

how is your hinge mounted? Mine is just like the OP's.

From the factory my hinge was mounted like this (pic was taken with shady old technology)

After my dealer did the "fix kit" it looked like this

Yep ..thats exactly how my hinge was & is after my rebuild.
The hinge folds over its self
This way it matches my other 2 bunks.

Mr D, this topic is probably tops on a HTT owners list, thanks for taking the time to take your pics and share with us.

I ran out and looked at the hinge on my 2010 Roo we bought last July. My hinge is setup like yours are now, however, I still had some minor leaking while towing in heavy rain last season but not this season. I towed to the Dayton Ohio KOA over country roads in May in a thunderstorm that would have drowned a frog and we had no leaks.

I do have one request. Could you go back to your first post and add a little text to your pictures?

TIA!

Considering I have a 2011 Roo on order, this is a scary thread. How prevalent is this problem? Having water get into the bunks while I'm driving to my destination is the making of a horror movie in my view. Please tell me they fixed this problem for 2011 Roos.

have only read of one similar problem in the 2010 Roo and none for the 2011 Roo.

i think the newer seal/hinge system is working much better than the older one but that doesn't mean that the assembly line will get it right 100% of the time. nearly all of us hybrid owners have found some sloppy workmanship on our trailers and it's common on other types or RV's.

I had this same exact problem on my 2010 Roo but caught it before damage was done.

When I brought mine in for the service at my local dealer, they were very busy and backlogged. They had it done sooner than promised and they told me our hinge looked fine and they didn't replace it even though FR had sent a new hinge as part of the service (Mike at FR actually shipped the parts directly to me at home). I looked at my hinge on my front bunk last night and it matches the old hinge that mister_D posted earlier.

My question to you all, especially mister_D, is this: Do you think my local dealer only completed half the repair by not replacing the hinge? I'm thinking it would have taken them more time and they didn't do it because of their backlog. I've never had water inside the camper (that I know of) but the area around my hinge is usually wet and I've got corrosion at the bottom of the front bunk on both corners, one side more than the other.

I've still got the new hinge from FR and I'm debating getting in contact again with Mike at FR.

My new 2010 Roo 19 had leaking in the front and rear bunks this spring, after towing in big rain. Its a bunch of BS if forestriver thinks they have Fixed the problem on the newer models. We had enough water leaking that it made wet spots on the beds.

Has anyone tried a simple fix such as attaching a tarp over the bunk doors while traveling? I imagine keeping the tarp secured would be a difficulty, but I am searching for something that will keep this problem from ruining my HTT when I get it.
Also, is this a problem with just Forest River or is this a problem with all HTTs?
