Just bought a new toad to replace our Malibu and was wondering if anyone tows this unit and what should I expect from her. Does the mileage run up with the ignition off?
Thanks
Richard

From my understanding on the 2005 and newer models, the ABS sensors send info to the BCM and/or ECM that the speedometer and odometer read the info from... Theoretically, I wouldn't think the odometer would change when the ignition key isn't on to feed power... Someone might know over on http://www.ClubXterra.org or http://www.theNewX.org...

FWIW, some 4x4 Nissans cannot be dinghy towed 4-down so you might check what the Owner's Manual says about the type of tow setup that you plan on using, if it hasn't already been read through...

Not on the subject but two things to think about.

A number of years ago I had a Jeep Cherokee with full time 4x4 shift on the fly. It started being contrary and I would have to stop and back up to get it shift from full time to two wheel. The transfer case was changed under warranty. The interesting thing is that they told me the transfer case was made by Nissan. Who knows what cabilities transmissions/transfer cases have that are not available.

The rest of the story. The new transfer case perhaps helped but did not resolve the problem. I got to thinking. The problem started after the tires were rotated (matched set with same mileage). I had them returned to their original location - no more problem. Felt kind of bad about that but the dealer/Jeep should have known there could have been this kind of problem and checked.

Thanks for the response. My X can be towed because it is a manual transmission, the auto trans cannot, has nothing to do with the transfer case. I will check out the sites you linked but wondering how many people tow the 4x4 down??? Was hoping someone on this thread would know for sure. Mine is a 2008.
Thanks Again

Jeep was my second choice. The xterra has quite a bit more room than the liberty and is about the same price. Only advantage is the automatic is towable.
Thanks
Richard
