I have noticed a few members who have personal web pages. I was hoping someone could give some recommendations on which is the best web hosting to use. We are just looking to add some family camping pictures, do a little writing and post updates. I've looked at wikispaces and google sites so far. I currently use picasa as a picture site.

Thanks,

CC

Take a close look at Shutterfly, we use it for our club website and it's free. You can configure it any way you like, have all or parts of it public, use it for personal or groups. It's one of the best I've found.

Here's a (link) to our club web site. Poke around and you'll see just some of the stuff you can do. Use the Shutterfly templates and you're home free.

If you are looking for something that is primarily a blog then I recommend blogger.com. It allows you to add an additional 10 pages to the blog for other things you may want to share.

One of the ones I have used is BraveHost

I recommend learning HTML - it's not very hard to learn...

See: Paul's Place and click on "Writing HTML" and read "How I Learned to Write HTML and Still Retain a Small Degree of Sanity".

For that why not just use Facebook?

From what you have described, I would also recommend a blog. You don't really have to worry about the design aspects with most blog sites, that is unless you want to, and can concentrate on the content. As mentioned, I would also recommend looking at Blogger.com for a free blog site. If you already have a GMail account, you already have an unlimited no. of blogs, with no set bandwidth limitations. Just log into Blogger with your GMail account, name your blog(i.e. yourname.blogspot.com), select a template and make any layout changes to it, add any features or widgets you like, and your ready to go. You can literally be up and running in as little as a few minutes.

Blogger.com has also made some improvements over the past months, including adding new templates along with an improved template designer, and the ability to backup your blog locally(export). You can even use a custom domain name(i.e. yourname.com), by making a few configuration changes with your registry account to point to your blogger site. I've done this for some blogger.com sites I've setup, and it works quite well. I've also noticed that Google's search engine picks up on the custom domain fairly quickly in search results. People can still access your blog from your old blogger name, as it's merely redirected to your domain name(i.e. yourname.blogspot.com --> yourname.com).

http://www.weebly.com/ is a highly recommended free website that isn't cluttered with any advertising; only a small blurb at the bottom inviting others to try Weebly. It's very easy to use with many templates. Took me no more than an hour to get it up and going.
