Your topic says laptop. I don't know that you can tether it to a router. You can tether it to your laptop with PDAnet.

Yeah, I have some friends who tether their Droid's to their laptops using PDAnet and it works well.

In addition to the other responses you have received, for $20/mo you can turn on the Droid X Wi-Fi hotspot function, which allows you to use its Internet connection on your laptop.

The $20 is limited to 2 GB per month.

The full version of PDAnet is about $20.00 to purchase once and then you have unlimited internet access. To me, that is the way to go.

I bought one for myself and for DW. We smile when we hear others complain about the campground wifi going down or when we pull into a campground that uses Tengonet or some other paid wifi service. We have not yet found a place our PDAnet wouldn't work. We use free wifi when offered, but it no longer has to be a criteria for where we choose to stay. She has even used it on the road while traveling to look up campground websites, places of interest etc. We took advantage of the Droid Eris two for one deal when offered and have been so glad we did ever since.

Both retired. Travel with Nicky the Schnoodle. Son graduated and is teaching high school math. We still love our 2006 34' Allegro Bay XB and have 40,000+ miles on her.

Which router, cradle point?
To use the DUN profile you need to pay verizon the $30 tethering fee,. Pdanet requires the the phone be connected to the laptop

There are ways to connect the router to the pc and the droid to pc and the pc will become a server sharing the connection with the router so other devices can connect

Options, always have options, and the journey goes much smoother

Pdanet has two pieces one on the phone one on the pc, it cannot be install to the kyocera router

To use the usb connection the router uses the normal DUN modem connection, you can use the phone like the aircard as long as you are paying vzw the total $59 a month for data , but if you don't do this the DUN I'D broadcast by the phone will very likely get you data overage charges

At this time I know of no way to use the kyocera directly linked to the phone and only pay & use the $30 unlimited data mobile plan

I have changed the "DUN modem connection" (actually the DUN NAI) on my Droid Eris (and on my old LG VX8350) to make it the same as the default. I don't know whether the same codes work on the Droid X, but here's how to do it on the Droid Eris:

Dial ##778
six zeroes for password
M.IP Default Profile
DUN NAI --> change yournumber@dun.vzw3g.com to just yournumber@vzw3g.com (delete dun)
Menu -> Commit Changes

(thanks to ttran97 on the Android Forum)

To enable DUN on the VX8350, see "Reenabling DUN on the VX850.txt" on the InternetByCellPhone Forum
