Does anyone have any input / Pros-Cons, to either St Bernards SP or Bayou Segnette State Park in the New Orleans area? I want to visit for a week or so and be near the city and these two state parks are very close.
Cheers,

I've camped a lot at both. BS is better if your emphasis is NO, which I guess it is or you wouldn't be there. Bernard has a ferry crossing unless you want to motor thru a "bad" part of town and find your own parking.
We prefer to park at the Algiers Ferry which unloads us pedestrians at Harrah's. Then it's an easy walk to most places. Take the streetcar to the Zoo, Magazine Street.
I'd better stop. I'm getting homesick for my second home.

Thanks Folks! Bayou Segnette it is. I do have the Senior National Park pass. Now, should I make reservations with reserve america and pay full price, then will I get a refund for the senior discount when I check in? or - - just do the walk-in thing and pay the discounted rate at the park hdqtrs?
can't Wait. Too bad the Oyster House closed down. I was looking forward to that.

They have some funny reservation rules in LA. I got tagged for extra money when I signed up at the HQ at one of the State Parks. I still had to pay a reservation fee. This tells me that corruption is still alive and well in LA. Don't forget you get half price in N O on the streetcar when you are a senior Citizen. They won't tell you and you have to ask.

I can't speak for St. Bernards, but you can't go wrong with Bayou Segnette State Park. And remember, if you have the US Parks senior pass, you get to stay for half price.

Just call RA and they'll fix you up. The reduction will be taken care of at Segnette.
I can't express enough how much I abhore this reservation policy. It doesn't fit my way of wandering and it adds another expensive layer. But, as they told me in Baton Rouge, we had to cut our expenses and this was a way to do it. Anyway, can't complain about half priced camping. Can't get it in very many states.
One benefit is they have a kick-a.. website that takes you on a tour of the campground before you select a site, and they tell you if something's available.
If you'll permit a plug? One of our favorite places has always been the restuarant by the fountain as you get off the ferry. Great food, drinks, and scenery. (My memory isn't at home right now, so I can't tell you the name. Something Lobster, I think)
Enjoy,

Spade,
Just returned from Florida. They told me that I would still have to pay a reservation fee even if I bipasses Reserve America.
