This spring we purchased a slightly used 2008 Coyote 23CFK. The 3 bunk layout was the main selling point. We did a couple of short weekend trips with it and then embarked on an 8 day trip to the Black Hills. We had an incredible time. However, on the way back, just 10 miles from home, in a construction zone I hit a massive pothole concealed in a puddle.

The trailers front axle was shoved back 2", the frame buckled at the center axle hanger, the floor was shoved upward breaking the dinnete ,the bathroom wall seperated from the outside wall, and the tires came through the top of the wheel well. The insurance company is coming out later in the week but I am 99% sure its totalled.

My questions are: 1) Does anybody think frame damage is repairable? I can't think of an easy or cost effective way to replace the frame. Quite frankly I think I want them to total it. 2) If it is totalled, what are my options for 3 bunk hybrids? I am familiar with the Coyote's and Roo's. Are there any others out there?

Wow.. I would think with a bent frame as significant as you've described, it would be totaled.

If you're willing to look for used, as you did before, we have a three bunk model from Starcraft, the Antigua 235sbs.

Currently we're on a 3,000 mile trip through the SW (we're from Washington State) and it's performing flawlessly.

Here is a link to our trailer pics and one of the floor plan.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Jayco has a 3 bunk 2011 model coming out. I think the jayco site still shows 2010 but if you went to a jayco dealer they may beable to pull something up on the net for you to see. Terrell Camping Center, Terrell, NC was able to pull things up on the new jaycos for us to see when we ordered our 23j in May.

Wow, that must have been some hole! Water can sure hide holes in the pavement!!! I am sorry to hear of your damage. I think we have all been caught by an unseen road hazard.
As far as the frame, yes, they can be straightened depending on how badly damaged it is. If the insurance co says they are going to fix it be sure to find a good shop that has done this type of repair before. If the frame is not right, the whole camper will have issues.
Take care

The construction company is required to ensure the safe transit of vehicles through the zone. If safe transit can not be attained then they must close the zone until it can be made safe.

this means the company must spend a great deal of energy and resources creating a safe transit path through the zone.

Apparently this company failed to ensure the zone was safe. You need to get right over there (if you can) and take lots of pictures of the hole, road and other related areas.

The construction company and the municipality that hired them may be held liable for your damages. You may be able to get them to repair or replace your unit without your needing to go with your insurance company.

Thanks for everyone's replies. I definately got pictures. I tried to do an attachment but it didn't work.

Actually, I work in the insurance industry pursuing at fault parties (subrogation) so I know all about holding the state and/or the construction company responsible. My insurance carrier has already said they are going to use my pictures and investigation to pursue this. Unfortunately, my experience has also taught me that even if the trailer is totalled the amount of the loss likley won't cover the legal costs to pursue indemnification.

Not to mention states are self insured and it is a pain in the A_ _ to get money from them. I had a state truck put a rock through my windshield and it took almost a year to get resolved.
