I am thinking about towing my 2004 Subaru Outback AWD, 5 Speed. I would be interested hearing from someone with similar toad

what does your owner's manual say under recreational towing or somesuch a heading? that is the only good reference.

Yes, the MANUAL transmission Subi is towable four down.
Sadly, our automatic is NOT!
Therefore, we tow the Jeep, and I can't answer the ACTUAL question posed by the OP.

You should be fine with the 5 speed manual. We have towed our 01 Forester about 40K miles with few problems. We now have about 110K on the odometer, recently did a major service, replaced timing belt and the like (at dealer).

I tow my 2003 5 speed outback four down. works fine. As other poster said can;t tow automatic.

I towed my 2002 Impreza Outback for several years and this year I switched to a 2010 Impreza sedan. Both vehicles towed with no problems, no uneven tire wear, etc. No fuses to pull or anything like that. As others have said, only the manual transmission is towable
