First trip to Boone and would appreciate any feedback you think would be helpful.
Need a nice CG with full hookup to include cable.
Things to see and do in September in Boone and surrounding area.
Things to avoid.

The only campground we've been to in Boone is the Boone KOA. They don't have cable hookups and we weren't over impressed with the site. The campground is on a good sized hill with most of the sites on the side of the hill. That kept us from having much of a lot. We wanted to find a different campground in the area but haven't yet.

Have stayed at Grandfather campground a couple of times. Full hookups. Older place not "modernized" but would stay again. Try Boone drugstore downtown for decent food. Also family style Daniel Boone restaurant.

I think the top cg in Boone is the KOA. Tweetsie Railroad theme park is a good place to go. Especially with kids. And always look at "THE" mountains.

I think the KOA is the best place to stay in Boone and if you like pizza, CiCis at the bottom of the mountain coming from the campground is very good. They have the best cinnamon pizza I have ever eaten.

Given clear weather, Grandfather Mtn is a pretty nice activity... Mile-high swinging bridge, bears and other wild animals in habitats that allow observing, small but good nature museum.

The only CG in the area that I'm at all familiar with is Raccoon Holler. I attended an event there, but didn't stay overnight. Nicely wooded, well-separated sites, friendly folks.

Depending on your planned route, you could get on the Blue Ridge Parkway at Asheville and drive to Boone that way. That'll let you see Craggy Gardens, Mt. Mitchell SP, Little Switzerland, and the Lynn Cove Viaduct on the way to Boone.

Do you have to stay in Boone or are you willing to stay a little bit further outside of it?

May as well tell you. Didn't want to. But I'm such a nice guy.
Best CG in Boone. Honey Bear. Turn on 105 toward Banner Elk from Boone. Go about 1 1/2 mile. There is a Tomato Shack on Left. Turn just as you get to it. Another mile or so, and the CG is on the left. Quiet, Secluded, Full hookups, cable, trout pond, game room, Family room, Lending library. Maybe 10 min from main street. Less to Wendy's, and many other restaurants.

Be advised. The CG roads are steep between loops. Loops are flat. creek running thru it. Very nice, very clean. And Y''all promise not to tell anybody.

OK, and just out from there on 105 is Flintlock Campground. Right on 105, and the river.

BTW. Raccone Holler is a super nice CG. One of out favorites, But a good long drive to Boone.

We have stayed at Green Mountain CG in Lenoir. Really enjoyed our trip and the managers were very nice. Will return and recommend.
