I have cameras set up around my house that run off my router that I can view over the internet when away. These cameras work great when using my IPAD but I could not get them to display using our laptop. I finally downloaded apple safari onto the laptop and can view the cameras that way. My question is why can they be viewed with safari but not internet explorer? The error message you receive in internet explorer is that it is missing a program to view the webcams but for the life of me I can't figure out what program it would be missing. The laptop has the latest and greatest directx plug in installed.

Hi Pam - If it works in an Apple browser and an Apple device, the first thing that comes to mind is that IE doesn't have the quicktime plugin installed. I would recommend that you contact the manufacturer or check out their website and/or documentation to see what requirements are listed. That should give you more information on what the web browser requirements are.

Internet Exploder is probably the worst browser around. Try using Firefox of Google Chrome. Even with the quicktime plugin, I would never use IE.

Im a believer and supporter of Firefox and have been since the early '90's, but wouldnt quite go that far.
Personally I think FF, Safari, Opera, Chrome and others are about to get their back-sides whopped unless they make quicker progress than they seem to be at the present time.

Yeah, I have my personal preferences but in my line of work I use IE, FireFox, and Chrome. The all have their pluses and minuses and in the world of technology it's a leapfrog game. One year one is better than the other, then another leapfrogs past them.
What is really important is that we have numerous companies making browsers so we have competition. That keeps them all on their toes.

I agree that you are missing a specific IE video plugin. What format is the video your webcams are streaming?

I have always used IE, works fine for me. Just made sure you are using IE8 and the latest updates.
