I have a new 2010 Toyota 4Runner, 4.0 liter V6, with a towing capacity of 5000 lbs. the 2010 4Runner is a little longer and taller than the 09's. The V6 is the largest engine available now. I am considering a 2011 Jayco JayFeather 19H with a dry weight of 3615 and a GVW of 4950. I will use a weight distributing hitch and progigy 2 brake controller. Any opinions or experiences with this combination?
Thank you

I have the same tow vehicle you have, and I just bought a 2005 Shamrock 19 today. My uvw is right at 3200 with a gvwr of 4700. Im going to be exremely careful with what I pack, never carry water and watch the grocery list. I have the wdh and sway and towed better than I expected.
Honk if you love peace and quiet.

Even better if you are down in Fla. The 4 runner knew it was back there with even a small grade hill, but I am used to hauling the pup. If you're mainly towing in Fla, then no worries!

I'm in New England for the summer, then to Florida for the winter. I generally camp the east coast, but would like to go cross country soon.
What did you find for extended mirrors for the 4Runner? Thanx

Pack very light. My Avalanche knows its back there and it has a 7,000lbs tow rating. I'm not a the weight police, but I'd be a little worried about that kinda weight on a new SUV. It is not the safety, but the wear and tear. The 19H is a great htt! Have you looked a the 17z?

I tow my 17z with my v6 4-runner with no issue, but not sure I would have gone any bigger the the GWVR 3500lbs of the 17z.... but on that note a friend has 19h and there TV is rated at 5000 lbs as well and they said they have no issues.. so each there own!

Hi,
I have the Tacoma with the same engine and works pretty good for towing. I have had no issues towing the 19H. You will not be winning any races going up hills (hills as in mountains in Vt and upstate NY) but I wanted the V6 vs a V8 for when I wasn't pulling. The Tacoma is rated at 6500 lbs towing capacity. I'm guessing the towing capacity difference between the Forerunner and the Tacoma would be related to the frame construction. I definitely agree with your choice of getting a weight distribution hitch (I have the Reese Dual cam and it works very well). I also don't usually pull the 19H with the water tank full. I have never weighed it fully loaded but I'm guessing it is less then 4500 when I'm pulling it. The gas mileage is about 10 when towing, but I always keep it in 4th instead of OD (I have an automatic).
Good Luck!!!
