I'm not a lawyer, but my 'simple' understanding is that you can have the software installed on two of your computers, provided that you are the main user of the computers. One of the PCs could be a home desktop PC, and the other could be a PC you have in your RV.

As an example, it wouldn't be OK to have one of the two allowed installations on your son-in-law's laptop.

How would MS know if you had them on two desktops or two laptops? A person at two different electronic stores said it (S&T2010) would only go on one PC. $40.00 is not that much money but I dont want to throw it away either. I will not get the GPS package because I wear hearing aids and in a diesel truck all you hear is the truck. I am playing with the 60 day trial now. I think it is pretty neat. When I go on the road I will probally use it for planning and next day to-dos. I thank all of you for your input.

Monitor whether or not the program phones home, which i'm sure it does. IF they send system info they can easily tell what you're using it on.

Hey Spotrot, it seems you could give Microsoft some feedback on these two concerns. They do visit most major RV shows to promote their Streets & Trips software, and they do actively seek feedback from users. In January, they were in your neighborhood, they attended the 2010 Florida RV SuperShow in Tampa. Their next stop now will be the FMCA Convention in Redmond, Oregon, August 11 to 14, 2010 (just announced here).

Thank you all. This is why I won't buy the 2010 version. I previously bought the 2009 version and want to use S&T on 3 computers. If I plan a route with 2010, then the 2009 version can't read it.

Footnote: the MS GPS is as others have described: It is cheap, small and works. The connector is loose so it can disconnect easily if bumped, and it is not as strong as our Garmin. It is OK if the above ar not a problem for you.

The model iGPS-500 was discontinued. The new model doesn't suffer from the above mentioned problem. It is a completely new design by a different manufacturer.

Yes, you are correct, I don't think MS cares if you have it installed on desktop(s) and/or laptop(s). These days anything can be considered "a portable device". The main point is that you are limited to two (2) installations on two of your computers of which you are the primary user. Tom (a.k.a. Pulsar) quoted the relevant part of the EULA on the bottom of the previous page of this thread. It is worth re-reading.

If I find a MS S&T website that solicits feedback I'll take the time to do so.

I don't think spending a day going to a RV show on the slight chance a MS rep would record my feedback and that MS would then change S&T is an intelligent use of time.

MS made a deliberate decision to change the 2010 S&T to make it incompatible with previous versions. I'd guess there's not a snowball's chance in Phoenix that they'd rewrite it now.
