Good morning, I have a customer "order form" that requires a lot of information, I use CUTE PDF Writer to save the form, but once saved I cannot edit the form if need be. I searched online and have found several PDF Editors, but, which one actually works. Anyone used one and can offer an opinion. I don't need anything complicated, just the ability to edit.

Thanks in advance for your help

You could try PDFill. It costs about $20 and I believe they offer a 30-day free trial.

For filling in PDF forms, I open the form in Preview then Print it as a .png image. Then I open a blank Powerpoint presentation and set the format for a vertical page 8.5 by 11 inches. Then insert/file the .png image and fit it into the page. Then I create text boxes, etc. to fill out the form on top of the form image, and print it out.

For multiple page forms, I do the same for each page.

Since you created the form, why not fill in the fields before exporting to pdf? I know OpenOffice will export without needing an external application, and leaving it in a format such as OpenOffice will let you auto fill a lot of the fields.

This is a good solution for PDF docs you create in the future because the text fields in the PowerPoint doc will be editable. It would be a lot of work to use this method to edit an existing document because you would need to re-enter all the form data.

I went thru a similar exercise not too long ago. I just needed to edit a single PDF so didn't want to spend any money. The best I could find for free was an on-line tool that converted the PDF to a MS Word doc file which I could then edit in Word. It worked OK but some of the fonts didn't convert exactly so if you compared the PDF to the Word doc you could see a difference.

I believe this is the site I used: PDF to Word.

Basically, you upload the PDF to the site, it converts it and emails the Word doc to you.

What do you mean by editing the PDF form? I would think it would be just as easy to edit a document using whatever application you want, then saving it in PDF format. You may also want to take a look at the freeware Bullzip PDF Printer. Besides PDF, it will also save documents in other graphic formats. I save many of my receipts in PNG format as it uses lossless compression and can be displayed by any web browser. Plus, it doesn't require a separate reader or browser plugin.

If you just need the ability to add notes, comments, or add text in a PDF form not designed to be fillable, then the freeware reader PDF-XChange Viewer will do that. It's the free PDF reader I recommend on my websites. Another online PDF editor that you may want to look at is pdfescape.com. The site is also useful if you want to turn any existing PDF document "form fillable" by any reader such as Adobe, Foxit, or PDF X-Change Viewer. This type of feature is generally only made available in paid versions of PDF writers/editors. It does place a 2MB max file size limit.

Lots of suggestions, thanks!

I will be more specific of what I am looking for. We are an embroidery company and we have a PDF form we use for customer orders, shirts, hats, jackets, lots of info goes on the form. Item color, style numbers, sizes, location of embroidery, thread color. When I complete the form I use CUTE PDF writer to save the form so I can email it. If and when something on the form needs to be changed, my choice is to print the form out, make the change manually, scan and email or redo the whole form. I work remotely so my form needs to be accurate and readable, not saying anything about my penmanship!

I just need something inexpensive or free that will allow me to make a change on this form if I need too!

Thanks again!
