Don't know if you all remember me, but I had an issue with a couple of guinea pigs who turned out to be a "pair" and not sisters.
We are now up to 9 guinea pigs. Apparently, the critters can breed right after (and I mean within the minute) of giving birth. And since we didn't realize our mistake until the first batch of little ones showed up, several months later on Monday a new litter of four identical babies arrived. Holly (the mama) was more than just fat. And unfortunately, one poor little runt seems to be blind in one eye. We're out of cage room even with three cages. The noise level when one opens the frig is loud with a chorus of purring, squeeks and whistles because they think they are STARVING all the time. They're messy critters and we have to keep them in the office to keep our super prey dog from shaking a cage for the tasty treat.
Anyone interested in a cute, cuddily guinea pig or two or three...

Check with your local pet store, sometimes they buy them.

A few years ago we went through the same thing you are going through. We thought we had a male, not. I swear we were having hamster babies every month. Hate to say it, but we release them at a park because nobody wanted them. We went through hamsters, birds, snakes, turtles, tarantulas and fish. The best pet out of the whole bunch was a dog. To bad we we didn't start with a dog at the beginning.

We purchased one guinea pig from Petco, and about two weeks later woke up to four in the cage. Anyway, we just waited until the babies were older and carried them back to Petco. They were happy to take them. I love the little things, but they can be smelly/messy.

Take them to your animal shelter or Pet store, give them away with ads in the paper, call your schools - some classes keep small animal pets - but for Petes' sake DO NOT turn them loose!! They have no way to feed themselves in a foreign environment and will certainly be killed by other animals!

Oh gosh. We had two G.P. in the family --- and you are so right about the refrigerator door! I cannot imagine having that many little ones to feed (and listen to every time they get revved up for breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack, etc.)
