Yesterday, my son hit a deer. Did a TON of damage to his Saturn Vue; and killed the 6-point buck immediately. My husband took our car hauler to go pick him up; and since the DS is a hunter (plus his wife really appreciates "organic" foods) - the sheriff told him it was OK to take the deer for processing, so it came back to work in the bed of our truck.

My dogs were SO geeked/"sniffy"/interested in that deer!! They're "city" dogs - don't get to see/sniff stuff like that...LOL!!

What amazing thing did YOUR pet encounter??

Dead fish. We live on the water with ospreys all around. They sometimes drop their catch in our yard. The dog usually finds them and roles over the fish. What a smell!

Requires an immediate bath. Good news is that the ospreys leave in about 6 weeks.

Bears. Tazz flushes them out of the bush a few times a week. No barking, no growling ... just chasing.

AND ... she's the first dog we've had that urinates on bear droppings. Whenever she comes across a pile she squats over it and pees. Sometimes just a few drops are available, but that seems to satisfy her.

The Wingard crank up antenna. If i go out to the RV to do some work and want to watch some TV, i'll crank up the antenna and the silly dog will stand by the door, looking up at the antenna, and just bark. As long as it is completely down she will not bark, raise it 1 or 2 inches and she starts barking.

I guess Calvin’s interest in watches…Kinda boring, I know. Till you see him going over to Harlee asking her what time it is.

When one of our dogs was a pup she was fascinated with the pattern in our oriental rug. She'd stare at it, pounce on it, and dig at it. We discouraged this behavior.

Mine are working pointing dogs.

One day my NAVHDA group was training at my neighbors place (he owns land on one side of the mountain and we own the other side), so my older dog, Maggie, and I hiked up our side of the mountain and down the other said toward the huge open meadow where they were doing the training.

As Maggie and I emerged from the woods, Maggie locked up on a hard point pointing a small clump of brush in the meadow. Everyone kinda stopped what they were doing and watched Maggie as she is known to be particularly skilled at her trade. There were maybe thirty handlers and dogs there.

This is Maggie:

Her points look something like this one from the business end out on the high plains:

She was, in effect, telling me that there was a game bird in that clump. I couldn’t see anything, so I waded in and kicked all around. Nothing. I looked back at Maggie and she’s still locked up in a quivering point – no doubt that the bird was still there. So, I kick the clump really well. Everyone is watching closely.

All of a sudden a loud buzzing was heard and a black tornado came swirling up out of the clump (she had been pointing a big nest of ground hornets). Did Maggie stay to protect her master from the onslaught she caused? No way. To everyone’s roll-on-the-ground amusement, the Old Man and the dog both ran away from the hornet swarm at full speed. Just as when running away from a grizzly bear, it doesn’t matter how fast you go – it only matters which one of you is slower. Guess who could run faster as between me and the dog?

Our working Border Collies dogs have been known to run out to gather white boulders from fields instead of the white sheep farther up the field. When they got in behind the rocks their demeanor changed from determination to oh, oops.

First let me say I am so glad your son is ok.

my one chihuahua Bella loves to roll in rabbit urine....ewww.... The smell on her is enough to make you sick, then she starts to salivate..foam runs out of her mouth...quite unattractive I must say ...
