Brobox,

I was wondering about the laser cutter as well.

What on earth did they cut and why?

What damage was done by cutting that "whatever" thing?

I ride it like I stole it!

I have a 2010 Honda CR-V and installed the Roadmaster Baseplate and light kit myself. The baseplate took me 3 1/2 hours not counting the time to get the tools together. The light kit took about 4 hours including drilling the holes in the taillamp housings.

I think you are being taken for a long ride because you supplied the parts.

My auto mechanic assured me he could install my baseplate on my 1998 Saturn SW. After working on it for an hour--reading the paperwork, and looking at it, he decided it would be best done at a place that installed them all the time. Didn't charge me. I hope you sent it to a place that professionally installs them!

I"m wondering if these systems are really that hard to install or if my shop is just way out of there league? Anyone else have trouble getting there blue ox installed?
Sounds like they were never in league!! Now I know where Larry, Daryll, and Daryll went to.

Seriously, if it were my car, I would be getting it out of there real fast. Getting it to someone who can check what they have done, and making sure it is right. According to the instructions for that baseplate, a trained installer, one, not two or three, should be able to install the baseplate in 3 hours! And that was how long it took my "untrained" body shop mechanic to install mine. And a $1000 for labor??? Are they ever taking you. Hope you are talking US dollars, Canadian Ouch! Here are the installation instructions for the base plate: http://www.blueox.us/baseplates.cfm?mfg=HONDA&year=2010&submit=Search. See what "IR" says and the defination below the list. That is what indicated 3 hours. And it is hours, not days! Click on the part # for instuctions. And if they used a laser on anything, I think they owe you money!!!!! Tell me they didn't.

And if they do suceed in putting it on your vehicle, I would have someone who had professionally installed Blue Ox baseplates check it out. You don't what to lose that CRV when you are coming down the QEW at highway speed.

Oh, if they took this long one the base plate, don't let them do the lights or brakes, cause you will need very deep pockets!

Good luck

You need to be in contact with that shop first thing in the morning and talking to the owner. You need to go in there and be confident and self righteous in not being charged for more than the 5-6 hours that this should have taken, start to finish by a professional. $1000.00 in labor is absolutely ludacris. You should not be paying them for their incompetence. You should not be paying for their learning time. They are the professionals. ahem. If they told you they could do the job, then they should not have put a technician on the job that could not do it.

If they told you they could install this equipment, they should not be addding to whatever they originally quoted you.

I would be extremely nervous about what they have been cutting onyour vehicle and I would ask to be shown exactly what they have done.

At this point I would not trust or have any confidence in going down the road with what they have done. It needs to go to someone competent for an inspection to make sure no damage has been done,

I can't imagine what they needed to laser cut??? That really worries me.

Keep us posted. and Good Luck.

Make sure you take a good digital camera with you when you pick it up and take detailed photos of everything they did... especially whatever it was they used the laser cutter on.

If they used it on the base plate then that would compromise the integrity of the base plate.

If they used the laser on your car... well then... THAT is VERY bad!

Do they have small claims court in Canada? From re-reading your post and seeing the other answers here, it looks like you might be needing some assistance.

There was another post here a few weeks ago where some shop monkeys installed the Blue ox base plate upside down on a guys new CR-V. You have to work at being that stupid. He had photos included. Your guys using a "Laser Cutter" really has me concerned. Did they cut your grill out to install your base plate upside down too?

Keep us posted after you talk to the boss.
