I have a 2010 Honda CRV and took it in 2 days ago to get the base plates installed and the wiring done. I supplied all the parts through Blue Ox and my car has been at the repair shop for 2 days. They have now got the base plate on but it took several hours with two guys working on it. They have worked all day today to get the wiring installed and so far all i have is one brake light, two running lights and no turn signals. They are now saying that the 6 point connector is faulty as is a module they located on the coach which they are going to replace tomorrow. My car has been tied up for 2 days going into a third and I am over $1,000 in labour costs so far. They still have not got ligths to the rear of my car despite giving them the blue ox system with all the required parts and downloading the instructions. They are saying that the instructions are very vaque and that the base plate was a nightmare to install. They have not even begun to work on the brake even system and I"m wondering if these systems are really that hard to install or if my shop is just way out of there league? Anyone else have trouble getting there blue ox installed?

You can go on the Blue Ox web site and see and read all the instructions for any car and associated base plate. My experience is that it's quite simple as long as you follow their directions. I put a base plate on the Colorado and it took less than a morning. Wiring was another 2 hours or so using their kit. It sounds like you are dealing with the Marx Brothers.

Your TOAD is a lot different than mine - BUT...
I purchased the Blu-OX baseplate & wiring on-line (as well as the tow bar). Had it all delivered to my home.
It took one (1) day for me (all alone - I'm a screwerdriver, monkey wrench and hammer mechanic) to do the baseplate and another day to do the wiring. AND everything worked out correctly the first time!!
I read the directions three times before I started and followed them to the letter.
It's now several years later and I'm still towing that '98 Saturn SW2 - no problems!!.

Thats what I was afraid of. I can see me having a long conversation with the owner tomorrow. I am no mechanic by a long shot but the instructions did not seem that terribly complicated to me. They said they were very convoluted and that they had to get laser cutters out etc whcih is what took all the time. I may not have even been that unhappy but its still a long way from done and i can't see what is so hard about the lights in particular as they are installed as a kit.

I have a 2003 CR-V I used a Roadmaster baseplate which is similar. I used the Blue Ox Wiring Kit. I personally did my own install. Got the wiring diagrams from eautorepair.com along with wiring harness information. Took a day to read everything. First install day had the base plate and Brakemaster stuff all done. Second day had the wiring all done. THird day I rested....with a cold one in my hand, after I test drove the rig with CR-V in tow.
Go get your CR-V. Offer the Marx brothers $200.00 and the assurance you won't sue them take it home and redo the base plate install like the others have been telling you. Get the wiring diagram and harness location stuff (its $12.95 for a one week subsciption to eautorepair.com) down load all the info you need. Read the info and get to work. And on the third day you will rest as well.

I had my setup all worked out in one full day.
It took me longer to remove and replace the front bumper than to install the base plate. I think that it took about two hours start to finish... that was with adjusting the bumper alignment!
The lights were a snap since I just ran wiring to the back of the towed and mounted some LED surface mount lights on the bumper with screws. Then added a license plate light and a couple side markers and was all done... no tying in to the towed wiring. Has worked great for tens of thousands of miles.
I would say if you can read and understand instructions and can use a wrench, ratchet, pliers and screw driver you too can install your equipment and be confident that it is done properly!
I ride it like I stole it!
.......and I just may have.......

Wow! are you getting the shaft. It took my neighbor and I 3 hours to put his baseplate on his CR-V and we had never installed a baseplate before. We took our time and even enjoyed a beer 1/2 way through. How can it take someone 2 days to install a baseplate?? A laser cutter, for what?????

It occurs to me you should have taken it to a RV dealer who puts them on all the time.
