Big Sigh....

While cleaning the 2010 ROO after our weekend camping trip, I discovered rusty looking areas on the front bunk deck near the black seal. There is several OPEN areas where you can see the deck is compromised. We haven't noticed any obvious water intrusion, but apparently there has been some.

I am so frustrated. Contacted the dealer, who sent the pictures I sent along to Forest River and I am now waiting to hear back.

We have had the camper 11 months......ARGH!!!!

Bigger sigh!!

depending on how close you are to the factory, I would have them do the repairs. I needed some things done on mine and was able to take it to them. we are only about a 20 minute drive. they got everything done on time as promised and they don't have to wait for approvals to get anything repaired above and beyond what they find. i was really impressed with everyone I meet.

Yeah, I noticed those little staples rust in pretty short order. I was a victim of the front leak.

What I had happen was the luan wood skin they use, which with the outter bunk sandwiches an aluminum frame and about 1" thick styrofoam, soaked up all the water. In this spot, the styrofoam was cut short and nothing supporting the luan...i felt the weakness and was able to punch my thumb right through (on purpose). If you look in the picture near the very top of the wound, you can see the styrofoam (white) just peeking out from under the luan.

***FOREST RIVER made it right. Greg there had the bunk doors ordered, crated and sent them to me. Mind you, I was at the ass end of my second year...I purchased the $100 additional year warranty***

I WANT to replace them, not the dealer. I just don't trust anyone but myself will work on it and care as if it was there own (i.e. do it right). They sent the door, hardware, new seal kits and decals.

I have still to get to it, so I have jimmy-rigged the existing setup for now.

My Roo 21SS is a 2005. It took 4 years for the front bunk to be ruined from water getting in the bottom of the door. I had never had a leak when towing in the rain or water in the camper.

Forest River does not seal the bottom of the doors very well at the factory. I purchased a complete new door with the latest seal kit.

When I got the new door, it too was not sealed very well. I resealed the new door and installed with the latest seals. So even if water gets under the big rubber seal, none will get in the door.

They sent me enough seals to do the rear door as well. When I removed the rear door, it too had water in it. Not bad enough to replace, so I rebuilt it with some new luan and put it back on with the new seals.

It has been over a year and no leaks. I live 30 miles north east of Nashville and back when it rained 25 inches in two days, still no leaks.

I bought a 2010 end of summer last year and had to have the front bunk door replaced this spring because water got into the bottom of it and it started to swell. They added a rubber seal to the door frame so when it closes that seal meets the door opening seal.

I will never understand why, with all the warranty work they have to do concerning problems with water in the bunk doors, they can't use something other than wood. Make it so if moisture gets in, it can get out and not wreck anything.

Evergreen Rv has the right idea...NO WOOD in their construction.
