We pay to stay in a full service RV parks every night. Price ranges vary greatly. We use the parks showers as our shower is now a closet. If I were in a State or Federal Park paying the small amount they charge, I would not mind paying for a shower, but at a full service RV park that advertises Showers and are not bashful in charging their high daily rates, I do not expect to pay for a shower. In over a year, we have only run into 2 parks that have charged for the shower, but we don't stay in campgrounds, we stay in RV parks.

At first I thought, yes, it's ok to charge, then my husband said "Why do they charge for showers and not using the toilet, that uses water too?" Now I have mixed feelings ... I think the basics should be included with your site, but what is basic to one person (cable, wifi, pull-through,pool,playground) isn't basic to another. I can see why this causes a lot of aggravation on both sides. Heck, sometimes when it was 9:30 at night and we were just pulling in, I was glad just to have a space to park. I don't think there is any way to please everybody on this issue. Just hope they don't get any ideas and start charging for using the toilet, too.

They already did. When you paid for the site. you paid for the shower. End of story.
Find that verbiage in the agreement

When it says "Hot Showers" in the advertisement, and then in "Rates" gives the nightly site cost. That is really all I need. Personally I won't stay in a CG with pay showers, and fortunately. In NC. CG owner's are not that greedy, and know. If they do stupid stuff like that. Campers will just go to the next CG on the next corner. For in the NC mountains. There seems to be a CG evry where you look.
There are many (probably most) government CG's that have a dot next to "showers". Not one of them says "free", just that they're there. I guess that's why I don't understand the big deal here. It's been this way since we started going into real CG's

It seems like more and more companies in the travel industry are tacking on extra fees on top of their base prices as a way to make money during the recession. I don't like the concept behind it, but at least the showers are only a few quarters -- in comparison, Vegas hotels and airlines are charging $20+ fees for the extra services you need.

I respectfully disagree. Sure when the Shower was built, it was paid for with Taxpayer Money. There are, however ongoing expenses that were not covered when the Shower was built. The Water Bill for Example.

You may have mnisunderstood my answere. I didn't mean, tax money where they were built. I meant, the site fee when I check in. That is when I pay for the shower, the electricity, and water.

And to answere the above quote to me. I didn't say anything about free showers. I paid for it when I checked in.

And in truth. The State, and Federal Parks we go to don't have showers anyway. In fact, they have no hookups at all. It is the private CG, I'm speaking about.

Since we travel with 4 of us, it is not always convenient to wait for all 4 to shower before we get on with our day, so I usually send DH to shower house with the boys (or send them by themselves - 19 y/o and 15 y/o).

We have used both - pay and free - I was not thrilled when the kids came back looking for quarters to shower. I feel as others have mentioned, that I paid for the usage of the facility when I checked in and paid for my site.

I stay at both types, quarter showers and freebies. Give me the quarters. The freebies seem to attract the 'I'll only be a minute' that turns into an hour. And because folks seem to linger longer, they don't seem to care about cleaning up after themselves. I have one place I stay I've been trying to convince them to put in the meters.

I agree, There is a CG in NJ we enjoy which does have the quarter showers. It is always spotless and has plenty of hot water. Never a waiting line even though the CG does not have sewer sites, so most of the folks will use the pay showers vs. the pump out fee. Go in, pay your quarter, get a shower and get out.

I have been in CG restrooms waiting for a shower that does not charge and someone will be in there for over a half hour, holding the rest of us up, then no hot water. I now get a bit verbal and will ask, WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING IN THERE?? !!!! It usually gets them moving.

Don't like the view?? Then change it and Go CampingOur pics
