I hate sitting here in Nova Scotia and doing nothing for the animals in the Gulf. It breaks my heart to see these birds, etc dying and to now know that pets are being surrendered to shelters.
If you like the poem make a donation to the Louisiana SPCA or LSART.

The Animals in the Gulf

The place they once called home is gone
it's covered in thick black oil
None of the animals there are safe
either in the water or on the soil
The birds are dying, the fish are too
and the turtle eggs can't survive
Many people are working tirelessly
to keep some of them alive.
Dogs and cats are now going to shelters
their owners must let them go
it's not because they want to
but money and food are running low.
This tragedy, it hurts our hearts
as we watch the effects unfold
but we can't let the animals keep suffering
as we put their lives on hold.

Margie Garland

please pass this along to all of your friends and help raise some funds for the animals who need our help.

Wow, very well done Margie. It does break your heart everyday to watch all of this unfold on the tv, it's hard to watch.
Very sad for this whole country as this is going to go on for a very long time, just because they have capped it, will it hold? Then there's years of clean up to do...endless tragedy.
On a nice note, yesterday they did release some of the turtle hatchlings, they had scooped up the eggs and transported them to the east coast, incubated them and after they hatched at Cape Canaveral they released them to the ocean. Hope they survive, but most don't anyway.

Margie, thanks for bringing this up. So many people have had to give up their pets because they have lost their oil related jobs. These pets are the invisible victims of the oil leak.

BTW the LSPCA shelters euthanize, so anyone looking for a pet to rescue, please step up soon. Time is not on their side.

Wonderful poem, very well said Margie!

We will soon be heading to the gulf coast on a vacation that has been planned for quite some time now. I have full intentions on finding a group to work with for a few days.... I may come home with a broken heart but I plan to do something while we are there....

Margie,

You are so right! I saw a news cast last night that said the folks of the Gulf are worried that the nation will forget them as soon as the oil stops leaking.

But there will be so much work to do and so much to fix (wildlife, their lost jobs, lost tourism, displaced pets, etc.)

Thanks for the poem,
Dee

Well Margie, I finally took a deep breath and opened your thread. Your poem was well thought out and very well done.

The sadness I feel is for animals all over the world are being destroyed because of us humans.

When things like Genocide is being done to our own kind, it’s only obvious that we’d do the same to other creatures of this world. Cept besides a few environmentalist they (the creatures) do not have a voice.

These executives call the destruction of anyone or thing in the way of their profits is called “Collateral Damage”. So long as these companies or individuals are not made personally accountable. They will continue doing this, while living in their extravagant life style and lining their portfolios.

Unfortunately the odds for that happening is nonexistent.

What a wonderful poem. It's really heart sicking in what's going on in the Gulf.
