I bring 1 qt. of water to a rolling boil. Remove from heat and drop in a 1 gal. size teabag and let steep for 6 minutes. pour into tea pitcher and add 3/4 cup sugar and stir until sugar is dissolved, then add a qt. of cold water and 2 qts ice cubes; Stir until as much ice is melted as will and put in refrigerator. Can serve immediately, but is better next day.

I bought an Ice Tea maker .... made two pitchers and now it just sits on the counter. Coffee maker works better as I can add sugar to the hot tea and stir it in the carafe where it will disolve, then pour it over the ice (pitcher has ice marks on it), allow it to sit for a few minutes then pour it into my dispenser in the fridge (which has a spout for disensing). I make about 3 quarts at a time and they are consumed within a day.

DITTO.... for me also..... it only took one time and one mouthful to show me that coffee and tea don't mix...

I only drink coffee maybe a dozen times a year and then only in a restaurant... never drink it at home.

But .... maybe PattieAM was using a brand new coffee maker that had never had coffee made in it... if that be the case... then I guess a coffee maker could make a decent pot of tea ... maybe.

and as for those so-called "Tea Making Appliances" like Mr.Coffee tea pot..

They are pure garbage as far as I'm concerned... they were a lot of trouble to use and did not make a decent cup of tea...

I'll stick to the old way that my parents .... and their parents .... and their parents before them make tea....

Toss the tea ..( bag or loose leaves).. into a pot of cold water and bring it to a roiling boil for about five minutes...

Let it sit for ten minutes or so, until it cools off....

Then pour off tea into a "Glass" container ..(pitcher or gallon jar).. and stir in a large amount of cane sugar...

Then place it in the fridge for 24 hours before drinking it....

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... now that's real tea.....

TWO CENTS WORTH
The story goes that a man died and was approached by the Devil who told him that he could buy his soul back for a dollar. The man searched his pockets and could only come up with 98 cent. While begging the Devil to forget the two cent he was short, an Angel happened by and hearing the Devil laughing, asked the man, "Would you mind if I put in my two cents ?" The Devil got so mad that he exploded in a puff of smoke and the man's soul was saved.
The moral: Sometimes putting in your two cents worth makes a difference.

I didn't know what sun tea was until I moved south. I used to make it all the time and never got sick.

I do refrigerate sun tea but don't worry so much about brewed tea.

I always remove the bags as soon as they are done steeping.

All tea should have a nice smooth crisp flavor - if it has a twang then throw it away and start over. If your tea has an oily look on the surface throw it away.

Do not sweeten tea you are going to leave on the counter - the sugar will make it go bad faster.

I don't care for sweetened tea and my favorite is unsweet raspberry tea I make myself.

Home brewed ice tea will go bad quicker if you refgerate it then leave it out. If you keep it cold you will be able to keep it for about 4-5 days. But don't chill it then leave it to get warm it will turn bad. I don't believe it will kill
you but it sure don't taste good.

I make tea everday for dinner time. 9 small Lipton tea bags in the carafe of the Bunn coffeemaker and a full carafe of cool water. Let steep with warmer on for about 10 minutes. Nice, thick, strong tea. (Some will dilute for personal taste, add whatever - sugar, splenda, orange slices, lemon - I like it plain).

If there is any left over I throw it away before I go to bed. Tea turns stale too quickly and must be made fresh daily.

And, it never tastes like coffee either.
