The new road from Goose Bay down to the intersection with the road to Cartwright is great - except for about 20 miles - which are bad...Takes about an hour with stops and rough parts for the 20 miles. Blog has some photos. http://fmvan.com/?page_id=1464

Just did the entire trip this past weekend. As mentioned the section between Goose Bay and Cartwright is the worst. It is still under construction and there were rocks on the road that were a foot in diameter. Go real slow, fill up with gas, be patience.. Hope it doesn't rain, the rain washes out the sand and leave big potholes. On Sunday Between Goosey and Churchill Falls it poured rain and some of the holes were 2-3 ft big and made worst by the big trucks. However they do have about 6-8 graders on the road at all times so I expect it is much better now. Again, don't be in a hurry and watch the trucks, they are in a hurry.

Well, the Newfoundland and Labrador government promised to get that stretch of road open in 2009 & they did. Time will improve it. They who live there have vehicles to take the wear and tear too.

I well remember the first few years of the stretch north of Red Bay, calls to the radio station and more calls and more calls for every rain and snow.

Did you do Manic V and Manic II tours. I did, but they would not let you take pics in certain areas.

& I, I took the road less travelled by.
