I'm staying there later this month for 4 nights. I camped (tented) back in the late 80s/early 90s. There was a bad windstorm that went thru and caused a lot of damage I think in '02. Has anyone camped there since? I'm just curious as to what to expect. The campground was closed for a couple of seasons after that.

Halfway Lake was closed only for a short time, and has been making a good comeback (takes time to grow trees). Enjoy your trip. We were camping there a couple of years ago and only part of the campground was devistated by the storm. My guess is that the trees have grown considerably.

Halfway Lake PP is doing fine -- we camped there last summer and the trees are coming back. A friend of mine from Timmins is camping there this weekend (unfortunately, we won't be able to meet up with her as we are leaving on our trip on Saturday). She found when she booked that there were few sites with shade and kind of figures that the miniburst that went through is responsible for it. I tend to agree. Enjoy and have fun!

I do recall seeing some footage afterwards. Our woodlot got hit by 1 of the '06 tornados that went thru southern Ontario (same night as the trailer park in Combermere got wiped out). We had a logger clean up the mess a year later & things are starting to improve.

I've posted some of my pics on Webshots:

Our site was in the part of Hawks Nest North that was hit by the tornado. The poplars & birches are a couple of inches in diameter & probably 15' or so high.
