We really like bringing the bikes with us when camping, can't imagine not having them for recreational riding, trails, toodling around the campground or running errands!

We have 2 Trek mountain bikes, both are 20 year old American made (rare, now!), chromoly steel frames (light weight yet extremely strong, have gusseted welded frames and high quality Shimano components. They both have the typical Trek lifetime frame warranty, hardtail...no suspension. They were around $1000.00 each.

We were so happy with our Treks that we bought 2 more for our kids about 6 years ago, these have bigger sized aluminum frames, a lot lighter than ours and have front and rear suspension. Made in China, but the quality appears to be above average. Again they have Shimano brakes and shifters. They were around $800.00 each. Same lifetime frame warranty. We bought all 4 of the Treks at a bike shop in town.

Trek.

We put the "flat free" foam filled tires on the kids bikes, they're heavier but you never have to fix a flat again, and you can throw away the air pump too!

Trek still builds some of their high end bikes in USA, but we're talking about expensive!

It's amazing how bikes have changed. I look at some of the bikes now sold at WalMart Schwinn and "no-name" brands, and see the shoddy quality, especially if you look at the welds and poor quality of brakes and gear components...and you understand why they sell for around $150.00 or so!

We carry them with use virtually every time we camp, on our Yakima Roof rack on top of our cew cab. Need a step ladder to put them up there and remove them, but they sit upright and the wheels stay on...plus they lock onto the roof and the bikes lock to the rack. I think some of the new Yakima racks even have optional alarms!

We carry our bikes on the tail of our Eagle. I only have a cheap WM bike...was $100 on sale (clearance) and it matched the colors of my truck .

I brought my cheap WalMart mountain bike along on a road trip, in case we needed something from a nearby town? But it really got grimy on the back of the Class C.

I now have a wonderful "Specialized Ariel" bike - that *if* I brought along would be in a bag with a 10# lock on it!!

I have a Giant Revive, sort of a semi-recumbent. It has a backrest on the 40-ways-from-Sunday adjustable seat, and I sit upright. No sore wrists or neck anymore (3 herniated disks in my neck). It's odd shape won't fit a "normal" rack, so it rides in the back of my toad-Honda Element.

We buy pawn shop bikes because we spend winters on the So Calif coast, everything rusts. We carry them on a custom made receiver on the king pin.

We carry a couple of Townies by Electra. The seat is low enough for you to put your feet on the ground while seated. The crank is a little forward instead of directly under the seat but it isn't quite a recumbent. Handlebars have some rise. The overall effect is that you sit upright instead of bent over. It is more comfortable for someone with back problems. It also has a bunch of gears. Ours are 21 speed but there are several options with both enclosed gearing and derailleurs. They are not for agressive riding because you can't easily stand on the pedals but they are comfortable otherwise.

We carry two Dahon's ($149 each for the six speed model) which fold up small enough to store in the tool box in the bed of our truck. Very happy with them and not having to store them on the back of the trailer anymore. They stay clean and are secure. And we enjoy riding them.

We have 2 Trek Limes. We only ride on the road and the auto-shift is awesome. We had bikes with deraulers and spent more time cleaning them than they were worth. We carry them on a front receiver. They stay a lot cleaner on the front than they did on the back...

Hi,
We found a couple of bicycles on Craigslist - purchased mine for ~$50 and DH's for about $65. They're both mountainbikes and in great condition - DH just had a to do a bit of work & change the seats on both, maybe about $15 worth of supplies. We pull a TT, so we mount them on the bumper of the TT with a rack we found at Camping World a couple years ago.

We're very pleased - didn't spend lots of money (we use them occassionally) and they work great for us!
