The oil moves around. If the beach in front of you isn't as perfect as you want then just drive a little further down the coastline.

That's the key right now, the beaches are not getting soaked with black crude but hit with tar balls and tar matts at infrequent intervals. The lighter volatiles like gasoline have already evaporated.

People are quick to blame the media but I don't know that they have lied or sensationalized anything. It's up to the reader or viewer to make up their own mind.

Thats why us RV'ers come her for more reliable information relating to how we roll. 8-)

The beaches and waters around Destin to Grayton are beautiful. And I bet you can get reservations at one of the state parks without too much trouble.

In fact, I see weeks available at Henderson Beach, Topsail, Rocky Bayou, and Grayton right now. And if you need more than a couple of weeks at the time there's Geronimo RV in Mirimar.

My RV is sitting in the Destin area and I plan to keep it there for at least another six weeks. I don't see enough oil problems to keep me from enjoying the water.

Fresh from a co-worker of mine at Ft. Morgan, AL.

"There are a lot of people, equipment, and places being used by the cleanup crews, but you don't see them going up and down the beach, at least not in our area. I haven't been down to Orange beach and other places south of here. We don't smell any oil or anything. I believe the news media really blew this all out of proportion. Not saying that some oil hasn't come ashore, but according to the news stories, the beaches were covered and that's not the case."

Just left Henderson Beach SP (Destin) on 7/28. The only indication of oil spill was the command post set up at HBSP. On our first stop at HBSP (7/18-20) the beach was clean and the water crystal clear. Our second stop (7/25-28) the beach was clean and the water had sargasso and 'june grass' that was pushed in from the passing of TS Bonnie.

I'll do a separate post on HBSP, but for FL beach trips I'll go there, Grayton or Topsail ANY TIME.

We spent the first weekend of October at Perdido Key on the Fla/Al state line. The water and weather were absolutely beautiful. We found five or six tar balls during our long walks on the nearly deserted beach. There were crews of about thirty people working on the beach with hand tools finding tar balls but, for the most part, they were working very hard to find a few balls way down in the sand. I thought it was more like "make work" to give some money back to the community. We saw similar crews on the way out to Ft. Pickens in Pensacola.

We spent a couple of weeks at the Oak Grove Park on NAS Pensacola base. The clean up crews were still setting up their work stations every day from 7am-3:30pm. I thought the water and beaches looked great, myself. I didn't see any oil. We also drove to Ft Pickens several days (love that place) and the workers were there as well. That Emerald Coast....just awesome!
