We are replacing our 4 inch thick memory foam mattress topper. I would like to cut a piece off to use when I change the oil in my truck. I was thinking an electric knife. But we don't have one. Has anyone tried to cut one? What did you use and how did it work? Maybe a serrated edge knife like you use to cut bread ?

I had to cut the one we use in our motorhome as the bed in it is a short queen......I cut about 4 inches off.........I used 2 pieces of lunmber I had laying around........(2) 2"x4"s and sandwiched the mattress pad between them and used C-clamps to hold everything in place........I then used an electric knife down the length of the lumber........I layed the electric knife flat against the lumber let the knife do all of the work........the electric knife cut that memory foam like butter!
It came out perfectly straight and even just like a factory made cut......

Haven't cut memory foam, but have used an electric knife to cut other foam. Perfect tool for the job.

If you want to do a good job cutting it, go invest in an electric knife, they are not that expensive.

My wife was/is a professional upholster and all she ever used to cut foam was an electric table knife.

Hubby used the serrated blade of his leatherman. Took some sawing ... but it cut.

I used a serrated bread knife - it wasn't a nice "factory edge" - but I don't really care since it's inside a mattress cover
