marc71 wrote: Well, it's been a week and though the temptation has been there a few times, I've made it this far and feel there's no looking back!
Stopped by my local watering hole on Friday night for 3 beers with some "friends" most everyone in there was smoking and it was hard to fight the temptation, but I some how managed!
The little lady and I went to Busch Gardens on Saturday and I can tell you that even though it's only been a week I could tell the difference walking up and down and all around the park for 9 hours... Never felt better!!!!
Marc71, How are you? Have not heard from you for a while and I'm sending best wishes. If you had a back slide that is ok. Just keep trying!!

I quit in 1992. AND Daboo is SO RIGHT. I STILL have cravings 18 years later. ESPECIALLY if I'm having drinks with friends. SO ... we don't go out and have drinks in bars anymore. AND sad to say, I am a pretty militant NON SMOKER just as I was a militant smoker.
Hanging in there .... fight the cravings and keep quitting if you fall off! Best of luck to you!

I was 2.5 packs a day for 37 years. In 1 week from today it will be 1 year since I quit cold turkey. My last cigarette was outside the emergency room right before I went in for a stroke. That was my motivation. I still get cravings every so often. I don't think they will ever go away completely but they do get easier to resist with time. The moral is you can't quit unless YOU really want to.

I didn't smoke that much or that long but I enjoyed it. I really smoked more when I was driving a patrol car or just sitting around. I decided that I would quit when the price of a pack of cigs cost $1.25 a pack. It hit that in November of 1990 and I quit. Now when someone asks me if I smoked I just tell them I did but I decided "to give it up as a bad habit". I have not had the desire to try one again.
Good luck .

Good Luck!
I quit maybe 20 times. Got to a couple days some times, even up to 5 years once.
I'm at 28 years on the current quit, but I know I could start again.
My experience trying, quitting smoking works a lot better if you give up the connected activities, like drinking (including coffee in my case) and hanging out where other people smoke, and substitute alternative activities (like running).

I quit 8+ years ago after 40+ years, it's not easy. I had tried before, sometimes for a year or so but decided I had to quit finally. I used the patches and took twice as long tapering off (patches) and Dr. gave Rx for Wellbutrin (took the urge to kill away), for 4-6 weeks.
For the habit while sitting around I have a glass of water on hand constantly, when busy there is no urge.
Can't say that food taste better or any of the other stuff but I do feel better in the morning.
Good luck
