I want to warn about an electrical fire I had this past Nov 25. I have a 2005 302RLDS setting on a lot at Lake Texhoma in Oklahoma. When I closed up the trailer after using over the Thanksgiving holidays I was doing some minor maintenance acitivities when I began to smell rubber burning. I found that the living/dining room sideout at the bottom rear of where it meets the trailer was on fire and flaming inside and out the trailer. I had to open the trailer back up and extend the sideout partially to get all the flames out.

The only thing in that area that could have caused it are the electrical wires running up into the sideout for the 120V lights over the couch and dining table. No circuit breakers blew, there was no warning and yet they got hot enough to ignite the sweeper seals. It is at the dealers now trying to find out how and why but is has already caused me extensive damage and made my wife afraid to stay in the trailer. Be careful and check that area to make sure you don't experience the same.

WOW I'd be removing those 120 volt lights in the slide and replacing them with 12 volt ones like most RVs have. Are you SURE it was the lights? It could also have been a 12 volt wire shorted out possibly even to the slide motor or running lights. Sorry about your trouble. Skip

On our slide all the wiring, 12 and 120, runs out in rubber covered coil cable. There is wire loom around it where the long springs attach to keep it from sagging. I have found the wire loom out of place before and the metal ring on the end of the spring against the wire insulation.

I'll be sure to post the findings and fix.
The only wiring that goes out to the edge of the sideout and then up through the outside wall is for the 2 110/120 volt light fixtures. All other wiring is running down or behind the frame and does not contact the rubber sweep seals when the sideout is pulled in.
The wiring is not coiled wire but it does have a plastic loom around it and is held in place by a long spring which keeps the wire taught. There is nothing but the wire insulation at the place it goes up into the side out and that area does contact the sweep and is where, I think, the problem lies.
