RE: Ohio Rally Spring Rally, May 11th to 13, 2012

Well, Happy belated Birthday Youroo!!!
You need to plan to join us sometime this year, or are you in some witness protection program? We have been in (DC) for a week. Rally with (FROG). Yes I am undercover. Did you ever try to park a camper with the tent people at any protest rallys? Did you know they dont have full hook ups! But it is FREE camping. They sure know how to (get ahead in life)! Youroo!!:B

RE: Would you......

Here's the issue, I'm not getting any younger and gas keeps going up. I have a brand new Lance 1575 2012 model which is ideal. But, I have always dreamed of owing an Airstream and Colonial airstream has a used 2007 Safari 20' model which is the one I've dreamed about.
They want $30K for it and said they would give me $15k for mine, so it would cost me another 15 k to have my dream trailer. I paid $22k for the Lance 6 months ago.
Should I go for it or say no and keep on camping with the Lance? What would you do? I have the money in the bank and it certainly is not earning interest. I do not know what to do, please help me decide, thanks. Get married then ask your wife! Youroo!!:B

RE: Rockwood vs. Flagstaff

If you get a Rockwood or Flagstaff be ready to get SEA SICK! They are real nice but no matter what when they are set up (camping) they MOVE A LOT! Front to back and right to left. Good luck
This comment just goes to show that you need to be skeptical of what you read from strangers on the internet (me included). I have no doubt that at one time or another, Big Ray either experienced some sort of instability in a Rockwood/Flagstaff trailer or knew someone who did. However, I own a Flagstaff and mine is rock steady when set up correctly. These brands are built exactly like a dozen or more other brands that are supported and stabilized in exactly the same way. All of them require good setup to be stable. If you doubt what I am saying, just have your dealer set up and stabilize the unit under consideration correctly and then try it in comparison to other brands on the lot.
Totally agree..Why would this trailer be any different than all the others??
B.O.
It's no different than the 3 dozen other brands available. Properly set up and supported it will be as steady as a frame loaded on leaf springs can be They are not (Leaf springs) but rubber ride, tube in tube, type suspension. Youroo!!

RE: Wood trim material on cabinets

Glued and screwed solid wood in my Rockwood. Thats why they call it (Rock)wood, solid as a Rock! Odd though, our Flagstaff, made on the same line at F/R plant has a lot of (Plud) plastic & paper covered wood! Youroo!!:)

RE: To Grease or not to Grease. That is the Question?

I personally know two seperate RVers who have had the ball start to become unscrewed because they did not grease the ball. One of them had even used a torque wrench to properly tighten the ball before their trip.
You can do as you wish, I always grease mine. In fact I regrease each time I hook up.
I call shenanigans.
What kind of torque wrench did he use? A common 2 5/8 ball has a 1 1/4" shank and that calls for 450 ft/lbs of torque!! :E
Do you have any idea what 450ft/lbs is like to pull? I have a 1/2" torque wrench about 3' long and it takes everything I have to pull 150ft/lbs on it.
To get the proper stretch on a 1 1/4 bolt your going to need a cheater bar a mile long, make Hulk Holgan look like a wimp, or your going to need a BFH. I choose the latter. :B
If your ball is coming loose your not getting enough preload on it. 2-5/16 Ball! Youroo!!

RE: Filling fresh water tank

That's about right. It will vary some depending water pressure and the size of the hose but a 50 gallon tank fills in about ten minutes under most circumstances. I think all fresh water tanks have an overflow valve on them. You will know when the tank is full when water comes out of the overflow. Is it a overflow or a vent for the tank? Youroo!!:@

RE: A different outdoor kitchen

We don't like to cook inside our TT. It heats it up and one of us has to clean the kitchen. No "lick and a promise" inside the TT. We have one of those First-Ups from Wal*Mart with the wind and screen curtains. That's our outdoor kitchen. :) We even have our ice maker out there. Inside the FU we have the toaster oven, the hotplate w/2 electric plates, a slow-cooker, a 2g water container, plates, pots, pans, spices etc. We use disposable paper plates and plastic "silverware" whenever possible. Other things are washed outside using the shower, where allowed. We have 3 mismatched tables under the FU which gives us plenty of counter space. At night we let the sides down in case it rains. The grill itself is outside. If the weather is such we can't cook out there, we'll go to the nearest town for dinner or just have sandwiches or some such inside the TT. Anyone else have this kind of outdoor kitchen? There would be a lot of space in TT if they all came with (NO) kitchen? Youroo!!:?

RE: Air mattress sofa and Electric awning

The air mattresses are equivalent to the Aerobeds - heavy fabric. But after deflating them you must wad them into the base in order to close the sofa. I wondered if pinching/tearing the fabric would be a problem, too. And while they might be a bit more comfortable than the usual sofa bed, we don't like sleeping on them so we turned that option down.
Most electric awnings have a control that automatically retracts them when a wind comes up, I believe. This can be a nuisance, too, in that it leaves anything under the awning uncovered and subject to being rained on. And the ones I've seen are rather high off the ground which means they do not shade as well.
Just some points to consider.aS HE STATED TRAVEL Trailer, they do (NOT) come standard with auto retract. Youroo!!

RE: What went wrong?

are you positive you didn't see the water that always squirts out from the back flow preventer when disconnected?
bumpy Your statement better not be correct,as the backflow preventer is on the inside of most trailers! Over time it would be a big problem. Youroo!!;)
