RE: Where do you buy new tires from?

Got mine at a local Michelin dealer who could process the FMCA discount.

RE: Valve cores stick !

Since it seems to be all your cores that stick, I'd say its because the previous owner had the tires balanced with powder or beads and didn't use the screened cores. One I could see sticking for some other reason, but not all of them. Here's a link to what you need Filtered Cores.

RE: Verizon 4G LTE hotspot

Then I guess I should assume a phone/Droid cannot be used as a multiple connection device like the 4G LTE Mifi therefore the router may be necessary. The Droid phone is a wifi hotspot by itself (connections for 5 devices). I'm not familiar with Mifi. The only reason I mentioned a router to a cable modem is to describe a configuration that works OK with the same PC on all websites. Sorry the explanation didn't get through, but thanks for your input. So, I now have a lot more DNS experience; run DNSbench - assigned all the fastest servers, got into OpenDNS - assigned their servers, flushed/released/renewed (rinsed and repeated), went back to auto-DNS, but the two websites in question (Fidelity and Staples) are still problematic. They still work OK on the iPad through the same Droid hotspot, so I think that is my fix, for now. Thanks for all your suggestions.

RE: Verizon 4G LTE hotspot

Thanks for your responses. No problems with phone browser or an iPad that also hooked up now. Did the hard reset thing (shut off, removed battery & SIM card, gave them really dirty looks, etc.), but no change. Guess I'll keep trying stuff.

Verizon 4G LTE hotspot

I'm connecting a Windows laptop to the internet through a Droid phone (Samsung Stratosphere 4G network and a 4bar signal) wireless hotspot. Some of the websites I want to visit will not connect in this configuration, however when I hookup through a wireless router to a cable modem all the websites work just fine. Seems to me the last time I traveled in early April this problem did not exist. Has anyone else seen a problem like this? There is at least one thread in the Verizon forums talking about this, but no useful info seems to be coming from it.

RE: Cable TV down Sat TV Cable

I'd give it a try. If it doesn't work it will probably be because there is a regular cable (non-power passing) splitter in the line somewhere. A good way to debug something like that is to hook the dish directly to the receiver thru a temporary coax. Sorry, I read the OP's question backwards. Still early in the AM.

RE: What would you do?

Its their rule. If they don't publish it and don't enforce it, its their problem not yours.

RE: tow dolly instructions

is there an easy way to tell if a dolly is steerable or not? the wheels on the dolly turn just like the front wheels on a car. The easiest way to tell if a dolly is steerable is to check if there is a pin that holds it solid when ur towing it w/o a vehicle on it.

RE: Learn Something New Everyday!

Why? Its because you don't want ur tranny gears & bearings spinning unless its the engine turning them. When the tranny innards are spun by the tailshaft, the lube doesn't get splashed enough to protect them. Keep the xfer case in neutral and the tranny in a gear, or Park if its an automatic.

RE: Portable Air Compressors

From ur sig picture, it looks like u have a gasser or FRED. What chassis ru on? Get it weighed and inflate according to tire mfg's specs. IMHO, 110psi on a chassis w/o air ride will shake ur teeth out.

RE: Satilite dish moving..???

Side to side movement was never a problem with my Windgard crank-up, but up and down movement was, and it's been pretty common with those models. The fix for the up & down problem is to Locktite the setscrew holding the dish to the shaft that raises and lowers it. Winegard customer service will talk you through it if you need help.

RE: question re: allure traffic master

Tried to send you a PM, but you're not accepting them. Here's a link to purchase slide slickers slickers. The Allure is pretty thin, <1/8", so I added a 1/4" subfloor after the carpet was pulled. That brought the vinyl up to about the same thickness as the carpet. The slide slickers are made to work on carpet, so I had to modify them a little - cut down the bend on the square end, and grind off some to the tips to make them work on the vinyl. When the slide is out, I store them under the couch, and put them down before pulling the slide in. I just make sure they don't move at all when the slide runs up on them, and after that the slide keeps them in place.

RE: question re: allure traffic master

If you're worried about marking up the Allure flooring with your slide-out, get a pair of "slide slickers". They're made of plastic and kep the rollers or teflon sliders on the slide-out from touching the flooring. I've had regular Allure in my coach for three years now with no moving or buckling problems.

RE: Fleetwood Drawers and Woodwork

If your drawer fronts and cabinet door frames are not real wood, no amount of fixing is going to make them look good for long. Best to change them out for real wood. My Southwind has covered particle board for the cabinet sides and fronts, but the drawers and door frames are genuine maple. That was one of the things I remember looking for back in 2004 when we bought the coach. It was easy to see what was and what wasn't.

RE: Making a hole larger using a hole saw/UPDATE

This method is also good for guiding a diamond tip bit to cut holes in granite counter tops or any other stone surface. Only difference is that you hold the wood template in place with duct tape instead of screws.

RE: Planning summer 2012 cross-country trip -seeking feedback!

If you go thru Green River, UT stop at Ray's Tavern. Best burgers made by old river runners in the west. Also check out the river runner T-shirts. "Sh**ferbrains Expeditions" got my attention.

RE: Las Vegas NV to Cathedral City CA

The road(s) are all two-lane blacktop. I have no recommendation about your toad; I pull a Jeep, but it is also a convertible .... :)

RE: Las Vegas NV to Cathedral City CA

If you feel adventurous get off I-15 at the Nipton exit and go thru the Mojave Reserve. The route is pretty well signed now; two right turns head you to Cima (old Boxcar post office), on to Kelso (historic train depot/hotel) where a left turn heads you to the I-40 crossing and down to US-66. Another right turn runs you through Amboy (a ghost town trying to come back). After that the first left turn puts you on the road to 29 Palms (RV park there). Then, go west on CA-62 till it hooks up with I-10. The road is not perfect (some is rough, some is whoop-ti-dos, some parts are out of cell coverage) but it will definitely keep you alert, and there is not much traffic. I've driven it several times in a Southwind, and have met quite a few RVs (DPs and 5th wheels) while doing it.

RE: Planning summer 2012 cross-country trip -seeking feedback!

Sounds like a great three month trip, unfortunately you're doing it in four weeks. Be prepared for some pretty hot temps in August in the southwest desert. That's when we head for the Pacific coast.

RE: Flooring change

I put in Allure vinyl flooring about 2 years ago. Went with that because once the pieces are stuck (or snapped - for the newer stuff) together it is waterproof, and it also is a floating floor. Ordinary laminate is not waterproof. The Allure is quite thin, so I added a 1/4" plywood sub-floor to bring it up to level with the carpet. I also use "Slide Slickers" for the LR slide runners, and they work as advertised. Very happy with the way it looks, wears, and cleans up.
