RE: Converting to a Gooseneck?????

it would be much easier to buy a 40' flatbed goose neck trailer and then take the axles off your tt and place it on top of the flatbed and weld it to the frame along with some orher kind of hold down system. there are like 5 of them around here where i live they use them in the oil field for portable offices and sleeping quarters.

RE: A/c only blows cool not cold. Any ideas?

sounds to me either it is froze up from over use or it needs to be serviced and freon added to the system also you might want to take the cover off and wash out the condenser coils they do get plugged up with dirt and such

RE: What to do with no sewer hookup

If you only have one grey water tank, do not dump the water on the ground. The food particles in the dishwater may be small, but that's still dumping garbage on the ground. I regularly stay in a campground where, in addition to the main water fill up/dump station area, there are also water spigots placed around the CG to get water. Periodically someone will wash dishes by one of these spigots, right under the sign that says no dishwashing, and the next day the flies show up.
well that is where common sence comes in to play because you should be wiping your dishes off with paper towels before you wash them anyway or at least that is what i do that way there is not any food going into the gray water tank just soapy water which will not hurt the grass or trees in fact the grass/trees like it i even do this in my home before the dishes go into the dish washer.
And i regularly spray dish soap onto my lawn/shrubs/trees at home it get rid of a lot of bugs the soap plugs the bug up so they can't poop and they die.

(i know i will catch heck for this from the gray water police) but is there grass around the camp site if so go out late at night and pull the plug and water the grass with the gray water it won't hurt a thing.

RE: Transmission temp when pulling travel trailer?

Hello,
I own a 2009 GMC Yukon 4.8 Liter. When I pull my 2012 Aerolite 195QB my transmission temp reaches the 220's. Is this safe? Should I install a transmission cooler?
If you don't have a factory cooler, then yes you should absolutely install an external transmission cooler.
According to the Transmission Exchange a consistent temp of 220*F drops your oil life down to about 45,000 miles.
http://www.txchange.com/heatchrt.jpg
A good quality Tube and Fin style transmission cooler will significantly drop your oil temps and prolong the life of the transmission.
This summer I swapped the OEM cooler on my truck for a B&M aftermarket cooler and also changed over to Dexron VI fluid. On a 500 mile round trip pull the highest temp I saw was 200*F in stop light traffic. On the highway I stayed right at 180*F.
KJ
Watch using dexron VI in older gm tranny's the seals are not made to use the dexron VI fluid and it will start to eat them and you will have tranny failure when you least expect it (don't ask me how i know this as it happened to me and it cost me $3000 for a new tranny)

RE: Bizarre Campground Behavior

We have a favorite boondocking site near Lassen Volcanic NP. To get there you drive a gravel forest arterial road, to a dirt side road, then to an unmarked dead end side road to a old landing. We like this place not for the amenities -- there is no view or scenery. We like it for the solitude and privacy. Many times we have neither seen nor heard another soul the entire weekend.
One time a large class A rig came driving up 'our' road, stopped a few minutes to look around, then maneuvered their rig to within 20' of us and began to set up camp.
First I was surprised they even found this spot, as the road is not marked and well off the main arterial, but then, in the middle of 2 million acres of public land all open to boondocking they set up camp right next to us? in a spot most would consider less desirable?
We broke camp and left, relocating to an even more remote site.
I like how you use the term "our road" that road does not belong to you and only you it is for everybody to use but i think the other person was wrong in parking right next to you but maybe instead of moving you should have stayed and maybe just maybe you would have meet some really nice people and you might have had a really wonderful camping trip.

RE: How long does it take to drink a beer?

In my college days, it took about 15 seconds, and that was slow. :)
Wow that was slow for drinking a beer because in my younger days we would have a contest to see who could down a beer the fastest i won 2.5 seconds but i could not do it now it would most likely kill me for all the burping it causes but then again i don't drink enough anymore to say i drink.
I did learn long ago that they can make it faster than i could drink it lol

RE: Weight off the tires?

Due to my mother-in-laws death and taking care of my 93 year old father in law, My wife and I are taking one more trip with our grandchildern then I am going to put my fiver up on cribs that I built to get the tires off the ground for who knows how long? I built the cribs out of scrap 2x6's and will install them under the frame behind the rear wheels. Then I will cover the tires and hope everything is good when we come to use it next. My tires are less than a year old so I would like them to be good and not rotted from sitting in puddles, whatever. I remember reading that you are not supposed to lift the camper by the axles, just the frame according to Dexter
It does not matter if you lift the weight off the tires or not if you don't use the trailer for say 4 years or more it will be time to replace the tire anyway just due from age and weather and ozone attack so why bother jacking it up.
Have you ever seen any trailers sitting on the dealer lot jacked up and some of them might sit there for several years. Just my 2 cents worth

RE: Bad battery ?

that was really funny when the responding person said get the wal-mart guy to show you how to use the multi-meter most people that work in our local wal-mart can bearly walk ,talk and chew gum at the same time let alone know anything about the use of the multi meter.
But i would bet a dollar to a doughnut that the loose battery cable was your power problem to your landing gear. Not sure about your other brake problem other than you might have a loose or broken wire in your trailer plug or on the braked them self's since the controller seemed to work with your friends trailer when you used the flipper switch on the controller.

RE: Old style RVQ grill I need help.

The one that came with my jayco fifth wheel is called a side kick and it does not have a regulator on it because it run's thru the regulator on the trailer and after calling my local propane dealer he said you should not run any propane stove or bbq thru 2 regulators because it would drop the pressure way to low.
But after looking up the rvq grill on the internet it does look like there is a regulator right on the side of the grill it looks like it has a quick disconnect on the inlet side and a hose that runs to the burner knob.

RE: Recent Electrical Issues

I need to say that I just got back from Maine 2 weeks ago, and never once did it pop the site 30 amp, nor did I experience any minor shocks. I just called Campers Inn the dealership and they asked that same question, did it pop the site.
They seem to think it's my house because It was not a grounded outlet.
Now, could it be that my extension cord is not strong enough and now it's popping the outlet?
They also said to pull all the fuses and plug the camper back in and 1 by 1 start inserting the fuses to see which fuse is popping the outlet to help narrow down the issue.
Pulling the fuses will not help as the fuses only protect the 12 volt side of the camper you need to turn off the breakers and then plug the trailer into your house and then turn one breaker on at a time until you find the one that pops the house breaker it sounds like you might have a wire touching the metal of the frame somwhere and causing a short or maybe when the trailer was built they put a screw to close to a wire and it finally rubbed thru and is now causeing a short.
